The wind is up again... The maple boughs are tossing and waving in the wind, it's rich summer green well-developed now, though not yet as full as they will be. I look forward to the lovely green sea when they fill out, though they cut off my view from the mountains. The air smells like spring today! The lilacs, now blooming, are bouncing about outside the kitchen window. They don't send out much scent, but this year there are quite a lot of flowers. I'm watching--again--my favorite of all the... Winds of Change
And here is the wind back again, with possible gusts up to 40mph. I am wondering what climate changes have to do with this so I have looked up a few articles, and it does indeed appear that winds speeds are increasing and that climate change plays a part. However, it is linked not only to the changes human activity has amplified, but to natural climate shift cycles. This is great news for wind-energy, but it is not so good for the increase of wild fires across the globe. And it means I have to... Sign in to see full entry.
Numbers and more numbers...!
So many numbers in my life! Some less important than others, like the stats on how many of my photos on Flickr get looked at, or how many reads my blog posts are getting, and how many pennies are gathering! Then there are the important ones, the blood sugar level numbers and how they average out over 3 months. This morning that number was just above the desired maximum which is 170. For the past long while, those numbers have hovered in the mid-200s, even over 300 sometimes. These are not... Sign in to see full entry.

Tuesday sundown notes
And here it is, the end of another Tuesday... It has been a lovely day, nearly hot! And the wind has settled, for now. I had another chat with the diabetes nurse today, and now have another adjustment to the meds. This time, an increase to the oral one that lowers blood sugar, rather than increasing the insulin that nudges the pancreas into making more natural insulin. In fact, she says that sometimes that nudge reminds the pancreas how to do its job, and may, in fact, let me drop the whole... Sign in to see full entry.

Down time, finally back up!
For several days now, internet has been intermittant... very annoying! But it appears to be repaired as of last night. Maybe. We'll see. Happiest of Mothers' Days to everyone who has been and has had a mother! Charlie was going to break out the smoker in the back yard to smoke me a nice big pork shoulder for dinner, but now we have a high fire risk warning and high winds warnings, and so outdoor cooking is not on. He suggested I could slow-cook it in the oven. I suggested that he could. It is my... Sign in to see full entry.

Ups and downs
So, Charlie won't be getting lasik surgery. It turns out, his corneas are too thin for the procedure. Now he is looking into prescription goggles for his steampunk looks, and has a prescription in hand for new regular glasses. For the length of time he's wanted lasik, and planned for it, this is quite a downer, but he's not one to waste a lot of time being sad about it. He loves the eyesight he has to be willing to risk it! Sun is out again today, and temps trending upwards. Should be a lovely... Sign in to see full entry.

Fixing health things today
Looks like the Springs are getting clouds and a few vague showers today. I haven't see any of the showers yet, except the one I just enjoyed. Charlie is going to a long longed-for appointment in an hour or so. He will be getting his eyes lasered so he can toss away the glasses. His sister was disappointed with her similar proceedure: She said, "I still can't shoot lasers from my eyes!" While he attends to that, I will be running over to my vision health place at Kaiser. I need an appointment for... Sign in to see full entry.

Afters...
Temps are down, wind is up, there's rain in the forecast, but not enough... The weekend event was successful: good enough though not phenomenal. Charlie brought home only 4 of the dozen bears he set up on the display. None of his sculptures went, but his first wood-burned wand sold. He will be able to pay his rent this month just from this event. It's one of the pleasures of life these days that I can afford to buy things at events like this, and get some really cool things for myself, and for... Sign in to see full entry.

Week endings
It's a pretty morning with sun and temps near where I maintain the house--mid-60s. But there will be wind again later on, gusting up to 40mph. So... time, again, to set the hanging plants on the deck down on the floor. Humidity is low, in the teens, so fire warnings are also on again, too. It could be a long, perilous summer. It could be so in many places, sadly. Right now I'm waiting for Charlie to get all his gear together for this year's Oddities & Curiosities Expo which loads into the venue... Notes on Wednesday afternoon
Sitting here gazing out at the deck which I've begun to deck with the plants that have been hanging around the bathroom since the temps dropped down below freezing. Wind is up again, gusting maybe to 20mph, and something was said in this morning's forecast about thunderstorms this afternoon. I'd like that... except we are in super-low humidity/don't make a spark/fire danger days. So, probably better to do thunderstorms later. Still, the heavy dark clouds are nicely dramatic. Though they have... Sign in to see full entry.
