Wordling

Here it is Wednesday already! Well, everywhere, I guess, that uses the same calendar. It's sunny and cool for now, expecting heat later, and again they tease with the promise of thunderstorms. I am hoping for plenty of wet before July 4th when the self-indulgent scoff-laws will be firing off their personal fire-works shows. This will happen despite the city officially declaring it illegal this year. They have begun already, as they always do. So far, Pixiechops shows no concern over the big... Grey days, bickering, and procrastination

Waking to another grey day, now and then gently raining... Nothing dramatic at the moment. This parched area is glad of the rain, both the heavy and the light! It looks like the week ahead will be a great drought-fighter! I hear birds bickering not far away. Magpies shouting, vs some smaller, more melodic singer. Pixie is at the back door quietly staring at the squirrel on the feeder. I saw two doves on it at the same time yesterday, and in the evening, a couple of house finches. They, like the... Easy Saturday

Looks like a delightfully cool day ahead, with an afternoon and evening promising thunderstorms. It says first, isolated, then scattered, and then for most of the evening, just thunderstorms. It's just past 9:30 am, it's gusty windy, and the clouds are gathering. Temps, they say, won't get past 70 today. The squirrel is at the feeder out back, and has a dedicated observer sitting by the glass door. I've seen the doves and the house-finches there from time to time. The other day, while out and... Well, that was unexpected!

I don't know quite what was so exhausting yesterday, but I was falling asleep hours earlier than usual, and went to bed early, slept well for a good 8 hours without the sleep-aid and tylenol I usually take. I hope this is the start of a trend! Yesterday was some busy driving around in the morning and shopping at the Asia Pacific market, then dropping Charlie off at a friend's for a boffer-making session. (boffers: big padded weapons for medieval re-creation battling) Then my friend Joanne came... Sign in to see full entry.

Under a long sunset sky

It's a beautiful evening after a sweetly cool day. It's the longest day of the year, and from here on they are going to be drawing in towards the longest night. I always take note of winter solstice, the shortest day, when we are at the point when days begin to grow again. It's always a moment of joy, knowing that the longer light is already starting. I don't notice so much when the days begin to shorten. Could be I am just not as interested! This long day started slow, then it was all about the... Sign in to see full entry.

quiet Saturday--so far!

Looks like we are in for a cool day here, and welcome it is, too! This is opening day for the Rennaissance Festival where, once upon a time, Charlie was the Official Court Drummer. He enjoyed most of it, but he never much liked or trusted the owner. One reason I don't think much of him is that he never spends the money to grade the parking field or the Festival grounds themselves. It makes it serious work to get around, especially if one is not especially steady on their pins! Anyway, he... Sign in to see full entry.

Peachy Morning

Already getting warm on the way to hot this morning... Woke around 7:30 after a tough time getting to sleep last night, and went back to bed for another half hour. Now I'm up again, waiting for the morning pills to take effect before breakfast of cottage cheese and peach! My friend Joanne came over last night to share dinner and watch the last episode of ELIZABETH R. We have been missing our regular get-together for the past few weeks as other things got in the way. Her whole family came up from... Sign in to see full entry.

Thursday morning

Up early again... a nice clear, cool morning! It will get near 90F this afternoon, but mostly mid-80s from noon to 5pm. No storms expected, though some downpours would be nice. It is so, so dry here! For now, the door to the deck is open and I can hear the birds of morning twittering away, and the noise of the traffic flowing along I-25, about a mile west of here as crows fly. It moves, this sound, like an ocean that is ever in motion, sometimes surging, sometimes going soft, but never stopping.... Sign in to see full entry.

Keeping cool...

So much cooler today! I woke up way early around 5:30, did the morning blood sugar testing, took the half-hour-before-eating pills, managed the half-hour-after-waking breaking of the fast... And went back to bed until Alexa reminded me at 10 that it was insulin time. It was good this morning to discover that today's Jan 6 hearings have been pushed to Thursday. Charlie and I have been watching together, and he also will be glad when he wakes up to have not missed it today. I've been hearing that... Sign in to see full entry.
