I have a confession...
I watched Real Housewives today. I have watched it other days. New York, New Jersey, Hollywood, Orange County... even some of Atlanta. I'd like to say I watch as an exercise in anthropology, I do have that degree after all, observing the subculture of privilege... Or that I watch as a writer, studying grotesqueries of character... Or as a psychologist, plumbing the dubious depths of shallowness... And still, I have to admit that some of the fascination is to watch bitches play out their games,... Sign in to see full entry.

Its a foot-up day...
not for reasons of laziness or r'n'r. No, it's a gout flare up that demands this treatment. So... these shots were taken this morning, of my kitty that likes to keep close, and what cat doesn't love a spot of sunlight...? http://www.flickr.com/photos/therovingeye/sets/72157626876353812/ Sign in to see full entry.

Some years ago, I went to a party...
the Middle-earth Ball was an event some years ago in Seattle, a weekend thing, and I of course went both nights, and anticipated that it would be an annual event, but sadly, never heard another word about it. Immense enthusiasm and energy went into it as you will see in these photos. I suppose there was, finally, no money. http://www.flickr.com/photos/therovingeye/sets/72157626738898539/ Sign in to see full entry.
Dad
My dad was greatly respected in his professional life, his adult friendships. He was friends with some renowned people. But to his family he was a great disappointment. I have been going through some deep feelings lately regarding his failure as a father and husband, his inability to understand the significance of feelings, especially those of others. Particularly, mine. All my life, all my life's most important choices were twisted by the fact that he was a man who didn't know what to do with... Sign in to see full entry.

Rough night, morning lilacs
The lilac bush was planted as a consolation and memorial when my daughter's sweet little kitten died of kitty AIDS something like 20 years ago. It didn't get a lot of sunlight where we planted it over Glimmer, it was not until it grew tall enough to catch sufficient sunlight that it began to bloom. This year, I saw the first blossoms--unexpected in this dreary, chilly, rainy spring--from the vantage of the loft bed window, in the Hutch, as the motorhome has come to be called, sitting in the... Defiance
Sometimes a relationship defies defining. It defies reason. And yet, defying defiance, you commit to it anyway. I have made a lifetime work of such relationships: liking people no one else likes; liking people who give nothing back; wanting in my life relationships that are problematic. I find myself sometimes brooding on such a relationship, such a person on the edge of my life right now. It has been suggested I'd do well to cut my losses and run. I can see the point of that. It has been... Sign in to see full entry.

End of an era and two junk cars
They have been sitting quietly sinking into the ground for some time now... really, an embarrassingly long time... And suddenly, yesterday, someone asked for them. And this morning, gave me $100 and hauled them away. I only a little bit miss the Ranger, it had the best ever bumpersticker: ISIS ISIS RA RA RA! I slapped that on there years ago when I bought the pickup, and then drove across country. First time I stopped for gas, an old red-necked farmer gave it a look and said in a tone of...
