Makes me think of that old book by Jean Stratton Porter, "A Girl of the Limberlost" that a read as a teen.

Very interesting! I wonder if it's a species I have never seen, or if it's a one-off genetic mutation. I would get in touch with your local university's biology dept. and talk to someone who knows lepidoptera...
