thank you, KaBooM,
but sometimes the person you have given to simply doesn't value what you do, and such gifts mean nothing, don't even rate a thank-you. I am remembering my dad again...

Kabu, thank you!
Letting go has never been one of my strengths, though there have been those relationships that my beliefs about the Big Picture have allowed me to box up and put in the back of the closet, saying, Oh well... next lifetime...

i find that sometimes a relationship especially a friendship can just run
its course......it is knowing when to walk away that is important.....no drama ...just gently let go. Some people will just take and take and that is not an equal relationship...they have to give sometimes as well. but what a darling you are, you see good in people and wish to help them when others have just given up. I admire you for the love inside you.

Thank you Adnohr for this really important piece of the puzzle
that I was missing... but knew it as soon as I saw it! Yes, you have to cut and run before you let someone cut your legs out from under you.
But sometimes, the effect of them doing that--deliberately or not--is the very thing that makes you sit up and notice, and love yourself against the odds.

"Nobody is perfect. That's what love is. Still loving someone, in spite of knowing the bad things" (
Penny Vincenzi) It works - unless you notice that it keeps you from loving yourself. Then it's time to cut the losses and run.
