more photos

Back to a normal, or at least my usual state of mind... Got some gardening done today, replacing a few things that suffered heat exhaustion in a matter of days. The old bird feeder got refilled and re-hung over the back porch. There was a really unusual rainbow yesterday evening, not only double, but the lower and brighter arc also had a second echo. I was driving when we first saw it, and there were two distinct bands, red through violet. By the time I got home to the camera, it was still... Sign in to see full entry.

Looking back...

I have been mining my blogs here for material to add to the new public blog, and so went back to the very first posts of this very journal blog. So many things, so many moments are there, with the immediacy of the just-written, and the nostalgia of the times before I knew what would come after. It began in 2007-8, this blog. It all started with Inchland, almost 200 pages ago, when the photos were posted on the page, not linked to elsewhere. Kabu, I think you would particularly enjoy a visit to... Disappointments and substitutions

It has been an interesting and brief sojourn in NYC. The tickets for the NatGeo oceans thing were purchased for June instead of July, and we didn't get word we could use them anyway until we got back from the American Museum of Natural History where we went instead. This was okay, to see Elsa enraptured by the diaramas and the special T Rex exhibit, to watch her discover the wonders I grew up with. She will be 3 in December, and was so much fun to watch, and share it all with. We covered a lot of... Sign in to see full entry.

Almost ready to fly!

The Dovelings who are now perched on the edge of the nest, considering the larger world, and myself, too! Tomorrow morning I fly from the Springs to Denver, hang about 3+ hours, then on to La Guardia, arriving after 9pm there-time. Saturday, we have tickets for https://natgeoencounter.com/experience, and in the evening I will hang out with Elsa, now ~2 1/2 yrs old, while her parents go to see the stage production of MOULIN ROUGE. Then, early Sunday morning, I head back to La Guardia, back to... Sign in to see full entry.

I didn't buy a car today.

It was a good-looking Volvo station wagon with a problem concerning a torn-up differential gear from putting different-sized tires on an all-wheel drive car. So this morning I took a car-familiar friend along to check it out. We drove up to Cripple Creek, about an hour and a half up into the hills behind Pike's Peak. The car had quite a lot more wrong with it--mainly cosmetic, and fixable. We estimated that repairs and parts would double the asked price, and that was still only around $2000.... Sunday and nostalgia

Sunshine today... no mention of thunderstorms, for once, but yesterday evening there was a nice rainbow. Dovelings are so big now, there's no room in the nest for Ma and Pa! https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/0ikQ34 Charlie and I watched another episode of THE SEVENTIES last night. It is really interesting to perceive how much my attitudes and understandings have changed since living through those times and events. He, of course, only vaguely knows the historical significance, and this is a... Sign in to see full entry.

Blogging in the Wilds

It takes some work to learn navigation on Wordpress, but day by day I am finding my way around. The posts are plain, black print on white backgrounds, and that may change over time. I have to remember to add tags to each one, to get more readers. And I have to deal with trolls and mean-spirited types who will down-vote a post and declare the writing bad if they don't like what the words say. They do it by clicking a star, without comment or ownership of the opinion. I suppose that iota of petty... Sign in to see full entry.

Saturday grey... cool... nice!

The dovelings grow apace... and the crescent moon was the show from my deck on July 4! https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/6H817v I added another post over on Wordpress. It began as a copy/paste from here, from some weeks ago on my Blogit Loosely Speaking blog, but as writers who revise--I'm looking at you, Pat--I could not let it go public without a few additions and alterations. That will be true of most of what I take from here to share there, so if you visit there, you will be seeing... Sign in to see full entry.

Fourth of July

Here it is, another lovely morning, bright and blue-skied. Pike's Peak outside my window is nearly free of white above the tree-line, and the clarity of the air is remarkable... and so I remark on it. Later, we are promised 90+ temperatures, but also thunderstorms which will knock at least 10 degrees off that. The doves are going about their family business, and yesterday I saw a pretty little humming bird tasting the purple flowers hanging by the other little bird house. That's the first one... Magic and Mysteries!

Tuesday, temps ~80s, with thunderstorms cooling the afternoon hours, and a solar eclipse happening out of eye-range, but live-streamed by NASA and the Exploratorium in San Francisco, so that, too, between 1-2pm PDT... Since Saturday, I have been looking in vain for my computer glasses. I searched around the house, throughout the truck... nothing. I could order new ones, but they would not be here for a couple of weeks, and that doesn't work out with my plans. And then, this morning as we were... Sign in to see full entry.
