What time is it really?

Ah... yes... Home again. Technically, I was home all day yesterday, but between changing time zones and from Daylight Savings to Standard time, and having a very poor night's sleep--which involved getting up after a couple of hours of discomfort on the old dead futon, wrassling the folding cot and mattress out of the guest-room closet, and assembling them, and then sleeping poorly on an overly firm twin size bed--yesterday was not a day for deep thought or composing bloggery. And yet... things... Sign in to see full entry.

Going home...

Flying out of Seattle to Denver to Colorado Springs today... I will be home there in time for dinner. All's well here, with Louisa having just surpassed her 5lb birth weight, after dropping to 4lbs something in the first week, as babies do. She eats with great gusto, burps and sleeps, this little gal who came into the world a month early. She sleeps fine in the cot, but better being held. We all wonder what will change when she actually reaches her original due date. In the meantime, holding her... Sign in to see full entry.

Toddlers... !

My elder Bell grand-daughter is a roving weather system: sunshine with hugs and smiles mostly, and intermittent storms. Normal for the Twos, I know, and just maybe this little girl who will be 3 in mid-December has better manners than some adolescents I've known. She knows how to ask politely for what she wants, and says 'Thank you' without prompting. And then she forgets words, and grunts and whines and has hysterics for what she wants--all calculated, too, as it all depends on the audience... Sign in to see full entry.

Harking back...

I found this back among the posts of 2009 Got this email from my son in response to the query of what he plans to herd with the pair of 10-foot bullwhips he wants for Christmas. I guessed dinosaurs, and was on the money: It only works on certain dinosaurs of course. Maiosaurs, Edmontosaurs, Corythosauruses, and such. You would think Iguanadons, but they have these pretty nasty thumbspikes they are not afraid of using if they get pissed off or feel threatened. And you always have to watch out and... The end of the month approaches.

This little family, now a little larger, has been together at home for a couple of days now. The first night was rough... the second, smoother. Tonight, it is likely that sleep will be had by all adults. By the time I leave next Saturday, they'll have it down. The expensive doula was not required, and would likely have made things actually more difficult as it would have been her setting the pace and priorities, etc. and this family is plenty capable of managing with their own systems. More and... Sign in to see full entry.

Flying home Nov 2!

Now I have a definite date set for my return, my mind turns to thoughts of the Springs... Where it is currently cold and snowing, and Charlie tells me my now-indoor plants are blooming! Embers will be glad to have her Designated Warm Spot back, and will occupy it as much as she possibly can. I will have my own Niagara shower back, and that will be so refreshing! There are things to do, too--On the 3rd there is a theater party to attend, kicking off the annual sponsored giving-to-the-arts... Sign in to see full entry.

photos up!

Got some photos up today, finally, to share with all y'all the Issaquah fall colors and all... https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/6n6p2H Sign in to see full entry.

Everything is looking up!

Here it is, Wednesday... Mist and sunlight wander through the trees--there will be photos! Louisa has gained back the lost weight and is now off the feeding tube. That was the last of the support devices besides the incubator. This means she is strong enough to eat a whole feeding on her own, where before she would get too tired to get the last of it. This is all very encouraging, and more likely she will be home by the end of the week. I have my flight home booked: Nov 2, a Saturday. This gets... Sign in to see full entry.

Baby Report 3

Mommy is home for a few hours to get a proper shower and reassure the dogs that she is not gone forever, and to pick up the specific things she wants on hand when she goes back to the NICU. She is still taking pain meds but is more mobile every day. Little Louisa is doing well. She was a little chilly this morning, so has been in an incubator--when we left, her temp was well up again, and she was having a feed of the milk Mommy pumped a little while before. In a couple of hours, Mommy will be... Sign in to see full entry.

Baby Report 2

Her name is Louisa Corinne! After a slightly worrisome start, she quickly improved and is now off assisted breathing, and has had some quality 'skin-to-skin time' with Mommy. She is a very pretty baby! She eats well, too, I hear. Yesterday, Elsa met Louisa for the first time. Big grins! She is very pleased to be the Big Sister who will teach Little Sister things, she says, like driving--which starts with the button that opens the garage. My cold is running its course, and soon I will also be... Sign in to see full entry.
