Remember the old cigarette slogan, “I’d walk a mile for a Camel?”

I want a cigarette so damned bad I’m tempted to walk the eight miles round trip to the nearest 24-hr. convenience store for a pack of anything that can be lit up and inhaled. Self-promotion seems to work

At least it did for me yesterday. With tongue firmly inserted into cheek, I begged for a click on a post to “Blogging Naked.” It worked pretty well. Within short order I had a couple of clicks. My list of favorites is being overhauled.

It has to be weeded out because I’ve still got blogs on the list that have been inactive anywhere from months to years. Blogs inactive for a long time are just going to have to go. Two phone calls today.

On my own phone. The new telephone company was as good as their word. This afternoon I had phone service in the old tin bucket for the first time in just over three years. I’m about two thirds of the way through an old Peter Straub novel, Mr. X, that is new to me. I probably won’t finish it tonight. Public breast feeding is legal in North Carolina.

I just heard that on a rebroadcast of last night’s eleven o’clock local news. I thought I’d pass it on for whatever it’s worth. What is your favorite read?

Mine is science fiction, although I’ll read just about anything that has a good story and is well written enough that it doesn’t insult my intelligence. The seventh and final Harry Potter book will shoot straight to #1

on all of the bestseller lists. The new Harry Potter movie (the fifth, I think) will rule at the box office for at least a week or two. “Gone With the Wind” is still the all time most popular movie.

At least that was my conclusion a few days ago when I was discussing movies with my son. Notice that I didn’t refer to it as the greatest motion picture of all time.
