My son had to work today.

So did I, although mine wasn’t on the clock for a guaranteed hourly rate. I spent quite a bit of time today on my other writing. The newspaper that publishes my column and sports articles skips an issue at Christmas. Nonetheless, I spent time playing with and discarding ideas for my next column. It... I'm having myself a good ol' time.

Tonight's blogging has really been a lot of fun. I’ve posted a few prewritten posts, and I’ve done a few on the fly. I even got a little crazy and threw in a few changes to the old copy-and-paste posts. I’ve been serious, maudlin, and more than a little silly. I’ve met a couple of new bloggers, one... Body functions aren't funny!

At least that’s what they tried to teach us way back in the dark ages when I was a boy. But we knew better than that. If they weren’t funny, why did everyone laugh at farts and admire belches? Well, all the guys thought they were funny. Besides, if farts weren’t funny, how come there was a booming... Sign in to see full entry.

Belching and farting did the trick.

In more ways than one, I think. Right off the bat I noticed my last post here got more hits than I can ever remember getting between posts to any of my blogs. I’m not sure if it was the belching or the farting, but I’m not complaining. I just feel like kicking myself for not going this route before.... Sign in to see full entry.

One of the advantages of the single life

…is that you can belch and fart to your heart’s content at home without offending anyone. No sooner did I type that line than my stomach started cramping up and I’m belching and farting without any particular desire to do so. I also seem to be developing a case of the cold chills. I suppose I’m... Sign in to see full entry.

Was I coherent last night?

I’m not sure, and I’m so short on time right now I can’t bother to take the time to read the post and find out. I do know I was so tired by the time I posted to this blog that I kept trying to nod off in the middle of composing the post off the cuff. Y’all must have thought I’d fallen off the wagon... I'm tired, hungry, and

…I want a cigarette bad. I need to finish up here in a hurry so I can roll a couple of cigarettes (one for now and one for in the morning), fix a quick bite to eat, and get some sleep. I’ve been rolling my own cigarettes for years now. It’s the only way I can afford to smoke those days. It only... Sign in to see full entry.

I love the middle part of the week.

It’s the time of week that I’ve caught up on my sleep after working like a dog to meet my weekly deadline. I’m usually well rested and clear-headed. This is the time of the week when ideas pop up and I’m rested enough to remember to jot them down. It’s the time of the week when the words flow and... Sign in to see full entry.

Temptation Lurks

Every few days I’m tempted to start a new blog. I’m tempted by all of the new categories that were added while I was absent from the scene. Science Fiction & Fantasy tempts me to no end. I’ve been a big science fiction fan since I was a little fellow and didn’t even know what the stuff was called.... Sign in to see full entry.

My favorite oldies station is playing a lot of Christmas music.

I have no complaint about this except for their selections. Too much “Blue Christmas” from Elvis and not enough “White Christmas” from Bing. Don’t get me wrong. I love Elvis. But “Blue Christmas” has to be one of his poorest efforts. Even my ex, one of the world’s biggest Elvis fans, had to admit... Sign in to see full entry.

Winging it in the cold.

Brrrrr! It’s now about one in the morning in Central North Carolina and unseasonably cold for the third straight day. I know temperatures in the teens aren’t unusual in December in many parts of the country. But we aren’t used to it this early in the month in this part of the good old USA. The cold... Where to begin again?

The overwhelming temptation, after an extended absence from blogging, is to jump in and post something to every blog I’ve got as fast as I can pound away on my keyboard. Ain’t gonna do it for a couple of reasons. Foremost is the fact that once I succumb to that initial temptation I’m just as likely... Sign in to see full entry.

Thursday worked out fine except...

I didn’t get to see the girls’ Blue-White game for my basketball season preview. It turns out I had been given the wrong information. The boys’ Blue-White scrimmage was about to start when we arrived at the designated time. The girls had already played. I took my notes on the scrimmage and, when it... Sign in to see full entry.

Logistics is the problem.

My trusty old Volvo is not in road-worthy condition at the present time. As a result I sometimes have to jump through hoops to make sure I have transportation to the games I’m being paid to cover. High school basketball is about to go into full swing. In a few minutes I have to leave to cover a... Sign in to see full entry.

Today

…was one of those rare days when I got to do a little bit of almost everything I like to do. As opposed to the vast majority of days when you have to do all of the normal things that you don’t particularly enjoy, of course. I started out by getting lots of work done on my NaNoWriMo project. I like... Sign in to see full entry.

One thing leads to another

…for me, at any rate. I suspect I’m not alone in this. Shortly after obtaining my new sports writing gig I found I could just barely afford to rejoin the Blogit fold. The combination of the two got me to thinking about NaNoWriMo again. This time I decided to go for it and commit to writing at least... Sign in to see full entry.

It's been a pretty hectic day.

I got started with an early morning blogging session instead of the usual late hours. It was fun and I got on a little bit of a roll. Being wide-eyed and bushy-tailed is conducive to posting a lot. I finally had to cut it short so that I could take care of other important matters for the day. One of... Sign in to see full entry.

Yesterday was amazingly productive.

I got out to vote, made it to the bank, and stocked up on enough groceries to make it to the weekend. Got it all done in one trip like I planned, too. Let’s see, I also got up with my editor and got my basketball preview assignment straight, I updated my NaNo word count, and I did a lot of blogging.... Sign in to see full entry.

Got too much on your table?

I do. Or maybe I should say it’s one of those days I feel like I have too much to do and not enough time to get it done. First of all, I need to take enough time to go out and vote. I also want to do some blogging. I need to touch base with the editor of the weekly newspaper that I freelance for. I... Sign in to see full entry.

Notapoet on Relativity

It’s been a relatively good week. Yeah, that kind of relativity. Not the physics stuff about Einstein’s theory. I haven’t been around here much because I’ve been so wrapped up in my newspaper gig, emergency babysitting, and getting myself set up and started with National Novel Writing Month. I...
