Okay, I lied

…when, very early Saturday morning, I said I’d be back later in the a.m. It was, however, an unintentional falsehood dictated by pleasant circumstances. My weekend turned into a series of pleasant diversions wrapped around family, a good book, interesting research for future research both here and... Sign in to see full entry.

Hit-and-run time-trippin’

Don’t mind me folks. I’ve just combined two of my worst vices into one phrase. And I’m indulging in both of them tonight (this morning?). Whenever I feel the urge to blog, but have limited time available, I often copy and paste a few posts, reply to any comments I’ve received, and disappear. I hope... Sign in to see full entry.

Double *&%$#@ cut phone lines, and triple *&%$#@ balky computers.

And a *&%$#@ to Murphy again for good measure. I really don’t want to talk about it, other than to say, “Yup, the phone line got cut again, the borrowed computer has gone into overtime freezing up at the most inconvenient times, and almost everything else that could go wrong over the last five... You try to do the right thing and…

Murphy’s Law blind sides you. I should be used to it by now. Wednesday night I passed up the blogging I wanted to do to rewrite two sports articles lost when the borrowed computer I’m using froze up. Everything went swimmingly. I rewrote both stories as well, perhaps a little better than the first... Sign in to see full entry.

Of cut phone lines, quicksand, and balky electronics

If it’s not one thing, it’s another. Sometimes it’s another two, or three, or more. I should have known things were going along too well to last. My two or three devoted readers might have noticed that I suddenly dropped out of sight early Tuesday afternoon in the midst of a flurry of posting,... Sign in to see full entry.

I’m so damned mad I could spit fire!

This (expletive deleted) borrowed computer has been freezing up on me since yesterday afternoon. It sure put a crimp in my blogging plans for yesterday and last night. I finally had to delete some stuff I don’t use often just to answer comments and make a few quick posts. Balky as it had become, I... Sign in to see full entry.

I’m having a ball this morning.

For a change I’m rested up, running a little ahead on my freelancing for pay, and have had the time to carry through with my threat to catch up on reading. I’ve only made a small dent in the reading so far, but the day is young. I started a little later than anticipated, but I got wrapped up in... Sign in to see full entry.

I’m feeling a little foolish today.

I was feeling a little disappointed that my last posts to “I don’t know beans” and “Notapoet’s Notebook,” in Opinion and Journal, had received no attention whatsoever. Then I took a closer look at my list of blogs and realized that neither post had gone through for some reason. Duh. Evidently I’m... Sign in to see full entry.

Poetry 7, Fiction 0

No surprise there. That is the way it usually runs in a neighborhood top heavy with poets and one notapoet. Still, if anyone is interested in short speculative fiction I’d be interested in some feedback on the quick first draft of what I hope will become a longer piece suitable for publication. It... The list lives, and other random thoughts

The “other random thoughts” clause was added cause I already used “the list lives” as a tag in my last post. Not that anyone noticed. If the counter thingee is correct I got exactly one hit. There was no comment. Evidently the old non-poet wasn’t hitting on much yesterday. Oh, yeah. The list lives,... Sign in to see full entry.

Time is short

…and I’ve got a busy night and morning ahead of me before I can get any sleep and do more than nibble while I write. Thankfully I had foresight enough to stock up on a lot of ready-to-eat and nukable food while I was out taking care of personal and family matters today. I also managed to get in a... Home Base

Today I officially sent “Notapoet’s Needless Lists of Unnecessary Information” to the inactive pile. That post also appears at the end of this post. Any future lists that normally would have appeared there will be incorporated into this blog, my very first on Blogit. You might also say this blog is... Sign in to see full entry.

A little of this ‘n that:

Happy Winter Hump Day. Yup. Similar to the Hump Day of the five-day work week, we’re now slap dap exactly in the middle of the winter season with 44 days behind us and 44 days, not including today, to go. Belated “Happy Income Tax Day.” The annual paperwork nightmare began 95 years ago yesterday. At... Sign in to see full entry.

Reading notapoet can be frustrating.

He tends to be all over the place, and he often continues a topic started in one blog category in a post to an entirely different blog in another category. All I can say is, “Sorry, folks. I’m working on it.” Part of the problem is that I’ve learned most bloggers avoid long posts. Sometimes, when... Sign in to see full entry.

Things change. A few thoughts on that:

My borrowed computer is less than I’d hoped for. It has far less memory than my deceased laptop, and it’s slower. It freezes up frequently. This is mostly my fault because I’m used to having a lot more running than this one will allow before it freezes. Still, it’s just a minor time-consuming... Sign in to see full entry.

Back in the days

…when I had nearly as many blogs as there were categories on Blogit, I also had one on blogging. As a byproduct of returning to the fold, that discontinued blog has received a couple of hits. Now seems as good a time as any to restate the reasons it was discontinued: it was no longer fun to do,... Sign in to see full entry.

Welcome back, notapoet

…if I do have to say so myself. So, where the hell has the notapoet been and what is his lame excuse for a four week silence? That, friends and neighbors, is a long story of little interest to anyone other than the non-poet. Suffice it to say that the old laptop finally died, notapoet has finally... Bloggin’ when I can.

At times it’s extremely difficult. Tonight, for instance, I’ll be trying to cover a state football palyoff game via a remote radio connection. Then I have to keep my phone line for a possible call to give me final game stats and postgame comments for the team I’m responsible for covering. I won’t be... Sign in to see full entry.

Okay, what the hell happened to .Dave.?

And what else have I missed out on during my absence of nearly a month? I don’t have a clue about what is going on in the neighborhood, and I won’t have the time to spare for digging it out on my own for at least a week or two. The two things that smacked me between the eyes were.Dave.’s banning and... Sign in to see full entry.

Coming Attractions:

A little more hit and run blogging tonight, and probably tomorrow -- gotta cover games and write the stories to earn the bucks instead of the pennies, ya know. Saturday morning will also be quite busy due to newspaper deadlines, but Friday will be less hectic than normal. The process of getting back... Sign in to see full entry.
