And I agree completely with your comment.  I think you succinctly expressed what I wanted to say, and more.  I'm impressed.  I don't have much time to blog right now, and I won't be around tonight.  But I'll visit and play catchup with you and the rest tomorrow.

Hi - I agree about the film revisionism. The same is true of music polls.
I think it's just to do with people dying and younger people not remembering or understanding the appeal of the older stuff. I think polls when quality-based rather than popularity based should be done using some objective methodology, such as the critical precedence it had in its own time, and look how long it held that precedence. The longer it's held it for, even if it no longer does, it should be near the top, while something brilliant but relatively recent does not desreve to go above it, although it may do eventually.
