A few years ago, there was a popularization of the so-called Hundredth Monkey effect, used as evidence of synergistic, perhaps telepathic learning with suggestions of the existence of community consciousness. I don't argue against those things, but as it happens, I read the particular study that gave rise to the myth back in my old college Anthropology days, and so I'm aware that the story is not what happened.
