Arrived intact... and Gas Prices Report

Son Charlie and Dog Davy and I arrived in Colorado Springs yesterday after a fairly fine drive from the Northwest. No snow except in a few patches high up in the Rockies, and a little across Utah, but none at all on the road. Gas prices are high all the way until Colorado. The worst we had to pay... Hiking to the camp

This set of photos contains highlights of the first several miles of the hike from where the bus parks to the camp by the Sea of Cortez. I had not thought to grab an extra battery, so the latter part of the hike did not get photographed. In fact, the trail goes past Rancho San Cosme which is the... Sign in to see full entry.

More of Baja

San Ignacio is a small oasis in the desert in central Baja. We arrived in the afternoon and stayed until after dark, swimming in the laguna, walking to the town's center, eating the excellent food provided by the efforts of the Green Tortoise drivers and helpers. It was salad and pesto pasta that... Sign in to see full entry.

A Hostel is a friendly place

...a refuge from the road, a bed for the weary traveler. It used to be that hostels were mentioned alongside the word 'youth' and that over a certain age, one could not resort to them. I have never found this to be the case, though often the travelers in hostels are young, traveling adventurously on... Sign in to see full entry.

The Sea of Cortez...

It is a living gem of blue and green, clear to unseeable depths, welcoming warm to swim in at the surface and quickly cooling as the sunlight grows dim in its depths. I skimmed over the surface riding a modern green kayak, dipping first one side then the other, dipping, sweeping, pushing, pulling... Sign in to see full entry.

Hoola-hoops for Peace!

The Federales have checkpoints along the roads north- and southbound. It is routine to halt each vehicle and ask a few questions. Only going northbound did we get actually searched--having to get out of the bus, while a few bags were selected (once, mine)--once in the middle of the night, once in... Sign in to see full entry.

just a quicky...

...to let you know I have returned from the desert and the sea... battered a bit, abraded and bruised, head stuffed with a nasty cold, a bit scorched and exhausted--obviously, I had a wonderful time! There will be photos, of course, once I get back to my own keyboard. And stories... Sign in to see full entry.

The Poppy Paparazzi

For a moment, I was a sight on a guided bus tour of San Diego. There was a garden of Iceland poppies in full bloom, and there was I with my camera making the most of it. The bus crossing the road behiind me, I heard the guide on his little loudspeaker point out the Poppy Paparazzi as he calls... Sign in to see full entry.
