I remember standing on the edge of a cliff above this area, looking across at all the layers of earth history laid out and revealed--many layers reaching upwards, like the two peaks you can see in this shot, and many layers cut deep down, as you can seem along the deepest river-beds. Island in the Sky is the highland part of Canyonlands. This site can be seen from the road that runs out to the edge of the cliffs.
