It was a tad nippy in church this morning. These medieval buildings really do keep in the cold. They're usually much colder inside than outside. So anyway, there I was, feeling a little chilly since I can't keep the fleece on but have to replace it with a polyester robe. So I decided to wear the... Sign in to see full entry.
Today should have been the blessing of Philip and Veronica's marriage, in her parents' lovely garden. A perfect day for it too, with soft Autumn sunshine and a bit of warmth in the air. But it wasn't to be. Perhaps such a day will come at some point - I hope I'm around to see it. Cycled down to St... Sign in to see full entry.
Blackberries - no, not the electronic kind, although I do love them. Ed said, as we walking down the lane, "Why is it that the best blackberries are always at the top of the bush where you can't reach them?" I thought it was fairly obvious - all the best lower, reachable ones had already been... Sign in to see full entry.
Travelled into Norwich on the bus today for a meeting at the Cathedral. I happen to be on the Diocesan Liturgical Committee, which looks at all aspects of Anglican liturgy (those funny little responses we chant, plus hymns, Bible readings, prayer, sermons - anything which goes to make up a service... I'm off to see Philip and Veronica tonight. They were married in May in a Register Office, moved down to this part of the country just close to Veronica's parents and their first baby, little Ruby, arrived in August. They booked to have the marriage blessed in Veronica's parents' gorgeous and... Sign in to see full entry.
Took Home Communion to ninety-five year old Mollie (Facing Freddie) this afternoon, but our ritual changed for the first time in ten years. She could hardly wait for me to get through the door before regaling me with details of a fall she'd had a fortnight ago. She told me she'd had two black eyes... Sign in to see full entry.
Oh dear, real grief next door. Our neighbours, Rosemary and Ken, had booked to go on a cruise, leaving today. But Rosemary rang me this morning to say that she'd had to cancel, because Ken is so ill. About a year ago, Ken was dying and I gave him the Last Rites. The doctor said it would be hours or... Sign in to see full entry.
Today was Avril's baptism and it was a great service. I love baptising babies (and baptised one this afternoon at St Margaret's) but it's a bit special when a seven-year-old chooses to be baptised. A crowd of kids turned up to support Avril and they sang "Who put the colours in the rainbow" which... Sign in to see full entry.
Today was a great reintroduction to the world of work, one which I heartily recommend. Ed and I were invited to lunch with Lord and Lady McPherson, who live in the village and attend church when they're not in London being official in the House of Lords. John McPherson was the Conservative MP here... Sign in to see full entry.
Our holiday is at an end. Today we head for home, two hundred miles away. Although we all live in Norfolk we’ve decided not to drive in convoy, so G and T may leave a little before us. But we all hope to get away by nine thirty, so should all be home by around five this evening. Yesterday for our... Sign in to see full entry.
