An Ode For Nigel The Curate

(Sung to the tune of 'Daisy, Daisy) Nigel, Nigel, give me your answer, do. I’m half crazy, wond’ring what’s happened to you. You went on a fabulous cruise ship But didn’t intend a cold dip In the ocean Med. And honest you said You’d be back before now in the pew. Come back soon, Nigel the Curate.... Where Is Nigel The Curate?

Have you seen Nigel the Curate? He told me he'd be back from his ten day cruise in the Med. last Sunday. I rang him. No reply. Thinking he might not have been back until quite late, I rang again next day as I wanted him to take a funeral on Wednesday 5th. Still no reply. I rang again on Tuesday and... Another glorious Autumn morning with bright sunshine, blue skies and last night's frost still lying around. I liberated one of Ed's golfing hats to wear on my cycle ride down to St Mary's, one of those 'thinsulate' floppy things that you pull down over your ears. Only since it's two sizes too big it... I Am Well Fed

I am well fed and therefore expansive. (And expanded, but we won't mention that.) Had lunch with the Rural Dean today - you remember? He stood me up a week or so ago. Anyway, his leg is now better, he's mobile again and he took me to a very cosy little pub with a log fire and a superb menu. We had a... Sign in to see full entry.

Monday Starting Badly? Surely Not!

It wasn't a good start to the day, with the phone ringing at seven forty five a.m. It was Gill the Reader, who was due to take this morning's funeral at the Crem. Note past tense. She rang up in extreme agony having been throwing up for four hours with a kidney stone. Since Ed has kidney stones on a... Sign in to see full entry.

The Archdeacon Jokes...

We had a Benefice service this morning because the Archdeacon invited himself to preach for us, following his visitation a couple of weeks ago. We usually have Benefice services on the fifth Sunday of those months when there is a fifth Sunday, but thought we ought to turn out in style for the... Sign in to see full entry.

An Annoying Letter - And A Death

Got this really annoying letter from Ireland this morning. Apparently this guy wrote to me in April asking for info about one of the redundant churches in this area, for which I'm responsible. He's researching the ancestors (aren't they all!) so I drove over to said church, picked up a copy of the... Sign in to see full entry.

Diaper Poultry

Yes, really! I was driving back from the little town around five miles away. I'd been taking Assembly Collective Worship at the Church of England Primary School there. I'd been with the 'Upper School', which always sounds like teenagers aged at least sixteen but is actually little people aged around... Sign in to see full entry.

Ashes? What ashes?

I'd just got in from this meeting yesterday afternoon. Ed said, "The funeral directors have rung. Something about some ashes you're supposed to be burying." "Ashes? What ashes? I don't know anything about any ashes. When? Right now?" "Apparently. Half-past three. The family's up in the cemetry now."... Sign in to see full entry.

An Accident

Saw an accident last night. In fact, we were nearly victims. Drove up to Norwich in the rain to stay overnight at the bungalow because Ed plays golf near Norwich on a Tuesday and I needed to make a funeral visit to the deceased's next of kin - his sister - who happens to live in Norwich. We were on... Sign in to see full entry.
