A Funny Thing Happened...

Took a service in our smallest church today. There was a stranger in church, who was very obvious since the normal congregation numbers around nine. At least, he was faintly familiar so I think I had seen him before, but I couldn't place him. I determined to find out who he was at the end of the... Sign in to see full entry.

Art And Flowers

One of our churches has a two-day art and flower event, so I've spent the whole day there and have to go back this evening for a concert. The church looks amazing. Full of floral displays all illustrating, 'All Things Bright And Beautiful' and loads of paintings by the local art group. Well, OK,... Sign in to see full entry.

Visitng The Housebound

Visiting the elderly (most of whom are housebound, else why would I need to visit?) is an interesting experience. I remember taking Home Communion to old Maud who had been a regular churchgoer all her life until she grew too frail to leave home. On this particular occasion the gospel reading was... A Circular Rainbow

As I cycled the two miles down the road to last night's PCC meeting, I saw an almost circuar rainbow. Just the bottom arc was missing. Most rainbows I see are quite wide arcs; this one was kinda tight and round, with brilliantly clear colours. And even more unusual, there was no rain! Mind you, I... Sign in to see full entry.

Meditation Masterclass

Took a Meditation Masterclass today. Have to admit that's not an entirely accurate description since I'm no master at meditation. But I have dabbled a bit in the past and we're kind of learning together. I thought a bit of alliteration sounded a tad more inviting than just 'Meditation Class', which... Chapter

Had a Chapter Meeting this morning, in the next town. It's just a little town which doubles as a village when it feels like it, such as in the 'Best Kept Village' competition, which it has been known to win. We - all the clergy in the Deanery - met at the Rectory in the town where we kicked off... Sign in to see full entry.

Coming Home

Yes, we're back safely ensconced in the Rocking Rectory and you're expecting me to say I'm as happy as Larry and ain't it wonderful to be home? Wrong. That's what I feel I should be saying and to be honest, part of me feels that. But there's another huge part of me that doesn't want to be back at... Sign in to see full entry.

In Church, So It Must Be Sunday

Decided to attend the 9.30 am service today at the local church. When I say 'local', it's actually about a mile and a half away, so hardly comfortable walking distance. Our bungalow is just about mid-way between the two churches in this benefice, but today being the fifth Sunday of the month, both... Sign in to see full entry.

A Jesus Joke

Threw the birthday cards away today, thought they'd been up long enough. But must tell you about the best one. It had a joke about Jesus which is one of the funniest I've heard. Jesus is standing in for St Peter at the Pearly Gates when an old man shuffles up. "Name?" says Jesus. "Er, Joseph."... Sign in to see full entry.

Hot And Steamy

Last night was hot and steamy (no, the weather! What did you think I meant?) which made it difficult for sleeping. But when we woke this morning the sky was a cloudless blue, the sun was shining and a delicious aroma of roasting barley was floating through the window. There’s a small family brewery...
