Should I?

I was thinking about starting a new blog only to discover I'm such a cheapskate that I'm only allowed one. I could upgrade (only I'm still a cheapskate!) but this new blog probably would have a limited shelf-life, so it doesn't seem worth upgrading. So here's the plan. I could slip the entries into... Courage

Some people are incredibly brave and that courage can take many different forms. Rosemary was in church today, flanked by her eldest son and her daughter. As Ken's funeral (And Then There Was One) isn't until tomorrow, I thought that was brilliant. Facing all her friends even before the funeral.... Sign in to see full entry.

Barbara

Visited Barbara yesterday. I've only met her once before, a couple of years ago. Barbara is clerk to the Parish Council. At that time she was diagnosed with cancer and was taken into hospital. Someone from the council rang me and asked if I'd visit, if I happened to be going to the hospital. "But,"... Sign in to see full entry.

Archdeacon's Visitation (2)

Well! Day One was a raging disaster, we've failed miserably so far. At the smallest church where the churchwarden claimed he hadn't had a list (strange, that. I gave them all out at a Benefice meeting) nothing was ready and they hadn't got a Health and Safety Policy or a Fire Prevention policy. But... Sign in to see full entry.

Archdeacon's Visitation (1)

Lord, what a bore it all is! Had to rush back from taking a funeral at the Crem this morning in order to greet the Archdeacon who is doing a 'visitation' on our benefice today and tomorrow. And then he's invited himself to preach on Sunday week, so we have to get all the parishes together for that.... Sign in to see full entry.

Stood Up Again!

Can you Adam and Eve it! Stood up again for the second day running. Was due to have a pub lunch today with Tony the Rural Dean, Nigel the Curate and Mike, a radio writer and director who lives locally. We were going to put on a brilliant show in the Deanery, a kind of travelling kaleidoscope... Sign in to see full entry.

Stood Up!

From fun and excitement to the depths of disappointment all within twenty four hours! No, it's not that bad. I'm exaggerating for effect. I was supposed to have lunch with the Rural Dean today, but he stood me up. He has a trainee Ordained Local Minister (OLM), just starting her training. Much of... Sign in to see full entry.

In The Cathedral

Today I had the honour of preaching in the Cathedral. No, not the main service, that would be a stretch too far, but at Evensong which is actually at 3.30pm so half way through the afternoon. You know that feeling when something's really scary yet exciting and kinda exhilarating? it was like that.... Sign in to see full entry.

And The Contrast

How can two funerals be so utterly different? Chris' funeral today was packed, with every seat taken and people standing three deep at the back. Chris was deeply loved by his parishioners and all those who knew him. He was everything a priest should be, gentle, spiritual, kind and just lovely. And... Sign in to see full entry.

Al's Gone

Went to Al's funeral over the other side of the county, today. I worked with Al in a big, city centre parish with two large churches, for four years. It wasn't the easiest time in my life. He was the boss, I was the underling and it didn't always work. But he was great socially. Ed and I had meals... Sign in to see full entry.
