The main reason why a non-poet attempts to indulge in the craft

Why write poetry, non-poetry, faux Haiku? ‘tis what’s happenin’. This neck of the woods used to be called The Blogging Network. Then it evolved into Blogit – which was really just a name change rather than any change in direction. Recent trends make ol’ notapoet think a more appropriate moniker... Sign in to see full entry.

Not quite Haiku – another demonstration of notapoet’s skill

Tried writing Haiku, but I kept coming up a syllable short. I saw something similar to this recently and thought I’d give a try myself. I think it was in the Uncyclopedia, but I haven’t found the right entry yet. I’ll keep trying so that I can give y’all a link to my inspiration and a bunch of other... Sign in to see full entry.

The Muse deserts notapoet, forcing him to regretfully say:

No poem for you, not even a faux Haiku… I lie a lot, too. Just funnin’ y’all. Actually, I’ve got about a double handful of little pearls – so many I couldn’t decide which to use. Then this little bit of silliness popped into my head and I couldn’t resist throwing it out to see if it would float.... Sign in to see full entry.

“Your Life Story in 6 Words.” Hemingway did it; notapoet, too.

Living, loved, lost; recovering, striving, and… that’s six words, “…and more.” Okay, I cheated and stuck in an extra word (that I could have left out) and made it an open-ended story. But it was fun to try and come up with something. “What,” you ask, “the hell is the non-poet talking about?” Good... Sign in to see full entry.

Born on the 29th of February? Happy Leap Day Birthday!

Poor February, Short on days by two or three… ‘cept for Leap Year. Wheee!!! I wanted to post something for all of the Leap Day birthday celebrants while it was still February 29. This, I’m sad to say, was the least objectionable of several clumps of words produced. Oh well, notapoet never laid claim... Sign in to see full entry.

Slamming and locking the door on undesirable candidates

Hillary, Billery, dock, time’s running short on the clock… time for a knock-knock: “Knock-knock.” “Who’s there?” “Hill and Bill…” SLAM!!! The next sound you here is me locking every door in the place. I’m not misogynic. I like women just fine. I’m simply opposed to anything that would allow Smilin’... Sign in to see full entry.

Rummaging through the files of notapoet the songwriter’s career

Neanderthal’s rocked, Cro-Magnon boogied on down… Homo Sapiens? Just a little silliness inspired by the remembrance, a few posts back, of my aborted song writing career. I still say someone obviously plagiarized portions of my pre-Elton John “Crocodile Rock.” At the same time, however, I have to... Sign in to see full entry.

“…prettiest thing I’ve ever seen.” The rest of Garnett’s lyric.

One-hit Gale Garnett sang “We’ll Sing in the Sunshine” and “The Prism Song.” One was a big hit, one lost in obscurity… and my memory. Rainbow memories: “Red and yellow, blue and green…” from flip side lyrics. Yeah, I pulled a fast one here. The title doesn’t make a whole lot of sense until you get... Sign in to see full entry.

Peggy and Pat – a notapoet tribute to voices of the past:

Is That All There Is, I’m a Woman, and Fever… sing on Peggy Lee. The nearly incomparable Peggy Lee was one of my favorite female jazz vocalists. The three songs above and her version of “Send in the Clowns,” were about as close to perfect as it is possible for me to imagine. She had a lush,... Sign in to see full entry.

Belated Valentine’s Day non-poetry and everlasting love

Be my Valentine, say you’ll be forever mine… make me feel so fine. This little bit of schmaltzy nonsense was going to be my Valentine’s Day post ‘cause I didn’t have the time or inclination to come up with anything better. What started out as a pretty good day went downhill in a hurry and I ended up... Sign in to see full entry.
