Think fast! I need two syllables to rhyme with Nantucket and bucket.

Shame on you! Just because I'm obviously trying to pen a limerick is no reason for your mind to sink into the gutter. It's not necessary for all limericks to be off-color. Try this on for size: A nice young man from Nantucket So admired an old bucket, with a zeal that bordered on passion, he ordered... Sign in to see full entry.

I know, I know -- it's only a big gyp in the guise of a poem

I know, I know -- it's only a big gyp in the guise of a poem Rhyming's not my game, cause notapoet's my name... you fell for it -- shame! Hey! Don't say I didn't warn you. Generally, I'm pretty truthful about things like this. So, if you feel gypped after being warned it was a gyp, Haiku you! Damn!... Sign in to see full entry.

Keeping the hand in: something a little different, but not too much.

You'll Lose a Good Thing Before the Next Teardrop Falls -- Baldermar Huerta Known as Freddy Fender, Wasted Days and Wasted Nights... Vaya Con Dios. Bonus titles: Secret Love, Since I Met You Baby, Living it Down. Definitely not poetry. But much like some of the previous nonsense I've posted here.... Sign in to see full entry.

Why it's not possible to find nontapoet's book of non-poems

I think I'll never see, long as I live to be, a poem as pretty as a real live leafy and glorious old tree. 'Tis why my poetry online appears only. Tree, or my poetry: It's no contest, you see. Sign in to see full entry.

Hung up on Ogden Nash and I gotta get it out of my system

Ogden Nash wrote of the octopus and the lovely hippopotamus. He spoke of termites, tiny ants, and creatures wearing long pants. He cited the squiggly eels as meals, and the way they feels. He entertained with animals, and the foibles of manimals. Reading Nash for a while always brought a smile. For... Sign in to see full entry.

Six lines, and a tip of my non-poetic cap, to FineYoungSinger

I wish I could write verse, both witty -- and yet terse, with all of the panache of Mr. Ogden Nash. Alas, I'm just notapoet... and I know it. My previous effort brought a much appreciated comment from FineYoungSinger that referenced the late, great Ogden Nash. It just so happens that this non-poetic... Sign in to see full entry.

Why discretion is the better part of valor on beach vacations.

I won't swim in ocean or sea In which thingies bigger than me Swim about within easy sight Giving me such a great big fright. A cowardly swimmer I may be, But no big ol' shark's gonna eat me! I haven't enjoyed a beach vacation in years. In fact, I haven't even been to a beach since '03. But the... Sign in to see full entry.

Fleeting fame in the poetry game

No posts in a week, my ranking I went to seek... four forty-five, eek! More proof of the futility of a non-poet faking it for fun and profit. The fun is there, but iffen ya don't do it every day the pay ain't zactly swell. Actually, when you take the recent overwhelming popularity of poetry into... Sign in to see full entry.

Mourning the passing of another season of failed expectations:

Ignominious! North Carolina struck out… hurry November. Tis but a boys’ game that gives us so much pleasure… and pain when we lose. Carolina blue, in basketball, shall yet rule… just wait’ll next year! The last line is, of course, the clarion call of all sports fans whose favorite team came up short... Sign in to see full entry.

Stormy Weather’s Mixed Blessing

Rain, rain – please don’t go – just fall on another day for this old bozo. The rhythm of rain fight drought and induce sweet sleep… but is such a pain… when one must go out reporting sports in the muck. Then, sweet rain, you suck! Commentary also to fall on another day – stopped up with hay fever... Sign in to see full entry.
