An experiment

Two days ago I posted to my fiction blog and have no bites yet. A few minutes ago I posted to my poetry blog for the first time in three months. I expect the latter to get more hits in a day than the former, though quite short, will get in a week. It's the way things seem to work on Blogit these... Sign in to see full entry.

Restoration of Balance

I wish I could take credit for a partial leveling of the playing field in a category that had been hijacked by a few vociferous right wing conservatives. In truth I probably just pointed out a disturbing inequity that others had already began to notice. It was likely mere happenstance that an... Sign in to see full entry.

Stacking the Deck

No ranking of categories this morning, though it was a tempting prospect. Being inactive on Blogit for five weeks has given me an opportunity to examine a phenom that has served to skew the results when ranking the popularity of various categories. Some bloggers habitually produce more than one blog... Sign in to see full entry.

Okay, it's a trend

Poetry is down a bit with less than 30 blogs in the Top 100 for seven straight days through the August 5 Blogit update, and with active blogs within the last seven days running about a handful down from the mid-sixties. Whether this is temporary or long term remains to be seen. As for the rest of... Sign in to see full entry.

One percenters

As often pointed out here, there is usually little noticeable change in the relative popularity of Blogit categories from day to day. This is one of the main reasons I quit trying to crank out rankings on a daily basis quite some time ago. The lack of apparent change tended to be boring to all but... Sign in to see full entry.

Before I get wasted

...and end up too tired and dehydrated to do anything but flop and drink a couple of gallons of water, I want to say thank you to the following bloggers who have commented or left a calling card on one or more of my blogs during the last eleven days while I was missing in action until early this... A longer list

Other matters have interfered with my planned blogging for a couple of days. As a sort of apology, I've expanded the list of most popular Blogit categories beyond the 10 or 15 detailed recently. This list includes all categories that tallied at least 1% of the total number of blogs active within the... Sign in to see full entry.

After the fireworks

The last time I posted a list of the most popular categories on Blogit it provided a snapshot of activity for the week ending early on the morning after the Fourth of July. This one covers the 7-day period from the Friday before the Fourth through Thursday as reflected in Friday morning, July 10... Sign in to see full entry.

Holiday stats

It could be a sign of hard economic times, or simply a general resurgence of interest in Blogit. Whatever the reason, we bucked the recent downward trend in blog activity with overall numbers running 11% higher than the recently observed low point in activity on the fourth (282 active blogs to 254).... Upward shift?

Yes and no. An early morning check of activity within Blogit over the last seven days (the period used in determining the overall Top 100) gave me a count of 268 active blogs, 14 more than I found in a similar check nearly 48 hours prior (see previous post). However a large chunk of that increase is... Sign in to see full entry.

Compulsion

Try as I might, I cannot seem to overcome the temptation to check on the status and trends within Blogit. It is akin to my fascination with baseball statistics which, when properly evaluated, give a pretty good indication of the state of the game. I suppose my blogging stats give a somewhat similar... Wow!

It seems like just a few days ago that I posted one of my category rankings here, not four months to the day. Several times I started to compile the data needed for a new ranking, but was defeated by a computer problem that made it difficult for me to get online, and even more difficult to stay... Good News!

Bloggers are blogging again, ending a holiday slump. The number of active blogs plummeted between Thanksgiving and Christmas, bottoming out in late December. But the allure of a blogging into a brand new year seems to have taken hold. At first it was a trickle. Now it threatens to become a raging... Sign in to see full entry.

Blogging Stats

Off and on over the years I’ve been associated with Blogit I’ve attempted to determine what the most popular categories for readers and writers might be. At times it seems pretty cut and dried with the same categories at the top of various lists I’ve derived. At other times Blogit seems to be in a... Sign in to see full entry.

The Top 9, sort of.

Before changing to my recent method for determining the most popular categories on Blogit I concentrated primarily on the categories that had one or more blogs in the Top 100. However ignoring categories that were quite active, but not regulars in the Top 100, presented an incomplete picture. Also a... Sign in to see full entry.

How did Blogit look the day after Election Day, 2008? Here is a quick overview, a snapshot if you will, of the way things looked in the neighborhood early Wednesday evening: 1. Poetry (79, 23) 2. Journal (45, 12) 3. Everything Else (40, 14) 4. News & Politics (38, 11) 5. Opinion (28, 12) 6. Religion... Sign in to see full entry.
