The more things change, the more

…they don’t stay the same on Blogit. Following is a ranking of all 24 categories (that’s right, 24 categories, not 42) in order of popularity among bloggers almost exactly 30 months ago. You’ll note that things are quite a bit different than they appear in the more recent category rankings. 1.... Sign in to see full entry.

Journal rules.

I already told you that yesterday. It’s even truer today. Once again Journal placed 25 blogs in the Top 100. The 25 th Journal blog over the last seven days had an overall rank of #93. Here’s a quick rundown of the latest update of the Top 100 along with my usual notes of how many blogs in each... Sign in to see full entry.

Popularity Contest

Unforeseen circumstances kept me from posting a ranking last night. It’s just as well. It gave me time to sort out my thoughts about one of the top categories. It also gave me the opportunity to post a quick ranking of the most popular categories about 18 hours sooner than I normally do. Here is how... Sign in to see full entry.

More on the rankings

…of the Blogit categories. Since I’ve started taking these occasional snapshots of the Top 100, 22 different categories have made at least one appearance. I may have missed one or two because I don’t check these every single day. I’m not trying to be comprehensive here, but I thought some bloggers... Sign in to see full entry.

Quickie Ranking

One of the reasons I didn’t post rankings nearly every day back when I used to do them frequently was that there is usually so little change from one day to the next. After a while it would seem like you were looking at the same ranking reposted every day. It usually takes at least a few days... Sign in to see full entry.

Two for the price of one.

In mid-September I took a quick survey of the categories that were most popular in the Top 100 over the last seven days. Only 98 blogs were listed on that particular day because someone had evidently decided to delete a couple of blogs that happened to be in the Top 100. Or it may have been two... Here we go again

…with another quick ranking. I never have been able to fathom why these things always seem to be more popular than anything else that I write. But far be it from me to argue with success. The following snapshot is from the October 7 update. I have expanded the list slightly to a Top 10 since that... Sign in to see full entry.

The Blogit Rankings

No, not Shaycom’s. Mine. When I first joined Blogit I devised a series of rankings as part of my class project in a college course. I wasn’t interested in who the top bloggers were. I was charting what categories the top bloggers chose for their efforts. I also looked long and hard at the categories... Sign in to see full entry.

Double Whammied!

At least that’s what it felt like to me most of this week. A disconnected phone (my son’s) and a hellacious cold combined to knock me out of blogging most of the week. The phone disconnection was one of those unfortunate circumstances in which a paid phone bill didn’t get posted until the following... Sign in to see full entry.

Haphazard Blogging

I prefer to do my blogging on a flexible, but regular, schedule. Lately that has meant posting late at night. But yesterday I posted from around noon till nearly two in the afternoon. It was necessary if I wanted to blog at all. That is why my schedule has to be somewhat flexible. Until I can afford... Sign in to see full entry.

Readin', Writin', and

…uh…um…ur…what the hell! Does blogging even have a third R like the “readin’, writin’, and ’rithmetic” of elementary education, or the admonition to “read, write, and revise” of creative writing? Yup. Hey, I wouldn’t be writing this if I didn’t have an answer ready and waiting. And it’s a mouthful.... Sign in to see full entry.

Umpteen Blogs, or Just One?

Or, how many blogs do you really need? It’s a question I don’t know the answer to. The easy answer, of course, would be that it depends on the individual. Take this individual, for instance. One blog wasn’t enough for me. But at one time I was unsuccessfully trying to juggle 21 blogs in 20 different... Sign in to see full entry.

The Game-Plan

One of the first things I learned about blogging on blogit when I joined up nearly two years ago was that it pays to have a game plan. Picking a category and haphazardly throwing out a few posts isn’t an effective plan. I didn’t think it would be, but trial-and-error is an effective (if painful) way... Sign in to see full entry.

One more thing...

…about common courtesy and blogging. Many of our blogs get clicks without comments. There is no surefire way to identify and thank all of our readers who don’t comment. But there is one method by which you may be able to identify a few who haven’t commented. Click on the “Search” function at the top... Sign in to see full entry.

Common Courtesy

If someone comments on your blog(s), you should at least acknowledge the comment. I’ll carry it a step beyond this. You know this blogger has given you at least one click. You should give them at least one in return. And it wouldn’t hurt to let them know you were there by making at least one... Sign in to see full entry.

How many blogs does a blogger need?

The short answer is: “At least one.” More than one is okay as long as the blogger doesn’t overdo it. Perhaps the question should be: “How many blogs are too many?” I know the answer to this one. In fact, I know several answers -- all of them having to do with fingers and toes. You definitely have... Sign in to see full entry.

Welcome to "notapoet on blogging."

Same blog, different title and direction. As I stated a few days ago, notapoet’s blogging rankings are officially dead. This does not mean, however, that I no longer have any interest in rankings. Particularly my own. This past Tuesday I returned to blogging after an absence of more than a year. My... Sign in to see full entry.

Wingin' It

One of the last hard lessons I learned on Bloggit was to save any post I particularly liked to my laptop's hard drive before posting to Blogit. Then it's simple to copy and paste the finished post without risking the loss of a lot of hard work due to a lost internet connection or a Blogit system... Sign in to see full entry.

A new blog title...

can be indicative of the beginning of a new direction, or the beginning of the end. This post certainly represents the former and, I suspect, may also represent the latter. First things first: this is a confirmation of the end of my rankings of the 24 blogging categories. I no longer have the desire... Sign in to see full entry.

After the Crash

As I indicated in my last post, its time I did one of my rankings by blog population to showcase how things have shaped up since the Blogit crash. The following table is it. Here I have attempted to show the differences that have occurred in the growth trends of the various categories since the... Sign in to see full entry.
