The first grade teacher and Valentine's Day

A teacher was explaining that although sight is our primary, therefore most important sense, the others are also very useful. To illustrate this she asked for volunteers to show examples of non-visual identification. A boy volunteer was blindfolded and asked to stick out his tongue for a taste he could recognize. A slice of peach was recognized easily. A little girl, blindfolded as well, then announced that she had just tasted a slice of banana. "Excellent", the teacher said. The final volunteer... The human brain, human thinking process' and lack thereof.

Am I the only one who thinks that the Enzyte, Viagra And Cyalis Commercials should have for a theme song, “It don’t mean a thing, if it ain’t got that swing?” Now it is too late, some other irritating commercial, advertising some other irritating product, has already used it. It seems logical to me that a large enough percentage of intelligent people would decide to “vote with their wallet” for companies that don’t insult them with irritating moronic commercials and against the ones that do! It... Sign in to see full entry.

Has anyone heard from Offy?

After about a week without hearing from Offy, I'm becoming concerned for her safety. I remember the early stages of falling in love. (My pornographic memory) and I know that the only times my feet hit the floor in the first week was to visit the bathroom, kitchen or photo-mat. Forget about work! There are more important things than careers and money. It is possible to live on love, (eat the children) for awhile, but eventually we have to pull back the blankets and check what season it is. Still I... Sign in to see full entry.

A rare perfect Sunday!

This is a message I sent to my friends and family about mid-February, when the first few warm, mild days made outdoor chores practically a pleasure. Today is a Sunday! Most of them evaporate without effect but this one was special. I was given an Ashley wood stove that one of my meal clients didn’t need anymore. It had a worn out handle/latch that made it impossible to know if you had actually latched the door to the firebox, and rusted out bolts for the stovepipe collar. These two small... Mark Twain vs. Benjamin Franklin I wouldn't want to choose just one!

I think it was Mark Twain that said, “He values truth so much that he uses it but sparingly.” Another quote that I know came from him is when late in his life, he had debts to repay and found it necessary to live in his children’s house. They feared that he would burn the family out of their house or worse that all would burn alive if he fell asleep with a lit pipe. They nagged and set rules against him smoking in the bedroom. His reply to their insisting that this habit of his be stopped? “ I... Sign in to see full entry.

Tips for sucessful gardening

Each spring I begin making preparations for my two gardens. I compost, making my own rich, dark soil. My broccoli, potato, strawberry and cabbage garden resides in my front yard, visible from the living room window and the road. My other garden resides elsewhere. Very other and very elsewhere, if you get my drift. Carefully preserved legacy seeds are carefully isolated from stray pollen that degrades what has taken years of subjective sorting from all other low-grade influence. Several times the... Guy's world famous salsa recipe

My recipe for my chili was well received so time back, so I thought I'd share another of my favorites with folks in Blogit City. This was written last canning saeson to my best friend Dave. Last Saturday I made my word famous, award winning salsa, using ½ bushel of tomatoes, 3 very large green peppers, 3 very large onions, too much dill leaf, maybe ½ cup cider vinegar, 5 rounded tablespoons sugar, a generous pinch of garlic powder, about ¼ cup liquid from simmered pickling spice, 1 teaspoon salt... Elective surgery DANGERS

A young boy checked into a hospital for elective surgery and was introduced to the boy he would share his semi-private room with. After introductions the boys began talking. “So what are you going to have done?” the older boy inquired of his new roommate. The new kid said, “I’m not really sure what it’s all about but my folks and the doctor say its no big deal.” The older boy said, “Do you mean like tonsils?” “I guess so, but it’s called ‘sir’ something.” was the reply. “Sir, sir, I never... Trying to be upbeat and funny, unsucessfuly.

Marilyn’s multiple sclerosis limits her abilities to do many things that she used to do, easily. I do most of the cooking but little baking. Even before she showed the effects of this insidious disease, she baked seldom, except things that were oven ready. Nothing I said would convince her that in the kitchen, yeast is your friend. She was either born skeptical or she developed this outlook on my advice because her ex tried to convince her that sperm prevents tooth decay and supplied many... Sign in to see full entry.
