--Marilyn is just devastated! You'd be too, if you lost your grandchildren!

Marilyn’s grandkids are out of school for the summer, out of Michigan in a few more days and maybe, out of our house forever. This is a long story, folks. The children’s mother has resented the fact that SHE doesn’t get to claim the kids on her taxes and get the stimulus checks for them, even though she relinquished custody of them to their father, in order to go live with her military husband at Fort Bragg, N.C. Donnie refused to give her the money because he feels entitled to it. It isn’t HER... Sign in to see full entry.

Summer and mosquitos have finally arrived here, at Sagehaven! Yin/Yang!

There are green strawberries in my garden from the size of a dime, all the way up to the size of a half dollar. When they turn red, there will be quarts and quarts and quarts of berries, I predict. Yesterday, I planted a row of Indian corn about fifty yards long, in the corridor that I cut through the swale, from below my tree blind, to the middle of where I expect deer to be traveling, this fall. If squirrels, rabbits, turkeys, and deer let it mature, this could be a destination instead of just... Sign in to see full entry.

Humans are the craziest people!

Is Billy May, (The guy who sells Oxyclean and Kaboom) Bluto’s gay son? Not the Toga wearing Bluto from Animal House. Popeye’s Bluto! I wonder what Ol’ Badass Bluto thinks of his son’s squeaky voice? Does Bluto say to his friends, “ That’s MY BOY!” STOP calling him Mickey M.! ” Does Billy actually think that anybody thinks that that is his REAL hair color? It looks like he painted it on, with a brush! I had an aunt and a grandmother who both colored their hair jet black. I always thought that it... Sign in to see full entry.

This is what happens when writer's block hits! DRIVEL!

I was thinking about writing another politically inspired blog, but I just seem to have lost the motivation. As Carlos Mencia recently said, “ So many idiots, so little time!” There must be something else that I can bitch about, something with no connection to politics. I do not appear to be able to state any position, on any political subject, without offending my dad. Call it a natural-born talent. Okay, here is something that I have wondered about for several minutes, lately. Do maps... Sign in to see full entry.

Want a nice bit of bedtime reading? Try Scott McClennan's new book!

Does anyone understand the whole Scott McClellan book furor? It sounds to me like the current administration would really like to discredit or, better yet, murder him. He has been called a liar, disgruntled ex-employee, opportunistic whore, turncoat, traitor, and other even less flattering names, because he wrote a book about his White House service. I have not read his book, probably never will, and I do not expect that I know anyone who ever will. I guess that I do not really deserve to have... Sign in to see full entry.

Be certain that you really want to know the future, before you look into it

I spend much of my time thinking about what is likely to happen in the future. I don’t have a crystal ball, and couldn’t use one if what some people think a crystal ball can do, actually could. All anyone can really do about future events is look at what has happened historically and extrapolate from there. Much of what I have expected to occur has happened or soon will. I am NOT prescient. I THINK! Most of the world fears that the United States government will precipitate a catastrophic series... Sign in to see full entry.

I must be one of the few people, who stayed home this holiday!

This holiday weekend I stayed home and took care of things around home. It’s not as though we could afford to go anywhere anyway, with gasoline prices insanely off the charts. Michigan pays as much for gas as they do in ALASKA! My nephew Matt is getting married in a few days, and I am going to have to miss it because of gas prices. I was really looking forward to attending. They are going to be married in the ruins of a timber or shipping magnate’s castle in Charlevoix, Michigan and I hear that... Sign in to see full entry.

As I may someday need to get CPR, thank you Red Cross for your new rules!

Now that the Red Cross has revised the way CPR should be performed, I am sure that many more lives will be saved, by these new instructions. Now, instead of having to alternate between chest compressions and rescue breathing, (it is likely that most people would forget how many of each was recommended) 100 chest compressions per minute, both oxygenates and circulates the blood. I wonder why it took so many years to realize this. Anyway, this following message is one that I sent to my best friend... Sign in to see full entry.

I hate to sound like Chicken Little, but the sky really IS falling!

Aren’t people exasperating? At least twenty-five years ago, I read about what we could certainly expect when a hurricane hit New Orleans, flooding, failed levees, deaths, chaos, and devastation. Did we prepare for Katrina? Nope. Human actions and neglect caused barrier Islands and cubic miles of sandbars to be lost to the Caribbean waves. Miles of salt marshland and farmland are now gone forever, when much of the effect of storm surge waves could have been mitigated, if humans had stabilized... Sign in to see full entry.

Sage thoughts about life and death!

For several weeks now, we have been receiving free Turner Classic Movies on our satellite dish, to encourage us to subscribe to it. Watching the old movies, all day every day, really takes me back to the days when there were only three channels on TV, and movies were shown at specified times each day, on each channel, just like the news programs. Seeing the hundreds of now dead acting greats, in their prime, is like meeting old and dear friends after years of being away. Seeing the old movies... Sign in to see full entry.
