On Being Stoic

I just want to say thank you to everyone for all the kind comments wishing my son well. I'm relieved that he does seem to be turning a corner, although it can seem to be one step forward and two back, so I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm concerned more because he has been through a lot in his young... Sign in to see full entry.

Just when you think it's safe to answer the phone...

I had a missed phone call from my son two weeks ago, and a voicemail, and a missed call from my daughter at about the same time. It turned out to be something that has occupied most of my time since. It was clearly important, since it came at about half past three in the afternoon, which was about... Sign in to see full entry.

Looking in

I bought a sympathy card from us both, and we'd decided that I would look in on my bereaved friend on my way home. If she was out I'd put the card through the door, and if the car was there I would knock the door, give it to her with a hug and be on my way. In the event, as I passed her house... Oh dear

Opened my email today to find a note from our choir director; very sad to read that one of our number (who'd had to step down two years ago due to advancing dementia) has died. As a couple he and his wife were members for over thirty years, and it was she who had to make the decision that they would... Sign in to see full entry.

New car

Six weeks on from my last post, and it seems that we have been busy, busy, busy. Most of it is to do with the stepson and the summer holidays; I am somewhat tired of us always going away with him, and for the last two days we have been tied up with the new car his father wants to buy for him. It's... Sign in to see full entry.

Petrol Head

- at my age!! Guess who's been to Goodwood? It wasn't the race track, however. Every year there is a Festival of Speed, celebrating a century of racing, and it is the most fun I've had all year. Highly recommended! Sign in to see full entry.

So the ironing is done...

I wanted to get it out of the way before we went off on Thursday - I hate things hanging around so just did it all. Whilst I am happy to do my partner's ironing, and had one or two of my own things to do, it didn't seem quite right to leave stepson's two shirts. My partner always thanks me for doing... Losses and gains

Bit of a meltdown at 5am... it's been uncomfortably hot at night, and with the birds singing at daybreak, currently around 4, 4:30, I haven't been getting much sleep. Add to this an uncomfortable discussion about what he can and can't handle as regards my family and my sister's 40th wedding... Sign in to see full entry.

Yo-Yo

I used to write about all sorts of things, even when I was going through a very tough marital breakdown. What I am finding now is that all I am writing about is relationship ups and downs. To my mind, after more than four years together with me being at his house for his convenience and his son's, I... Sign in to see full entry.

Survived the Holiday, Not So Sure About the Homecoming

Apart from some quite awful weather we found enough to do for the week in northern Spain.. cave paintings just one of the discoveries, and the Gugenheim at Bilbao. Mostly, we just ate as the locals do, late afternoon, and for a long time. This is the country that invented the siesta, after all.... Sign in to see full entry.
