CATCHING UP ON A THREAD FROM SEVERAL DAYS AGO:
"He Wanted Killin' " Ada was seventy-five if she was a day, and sharp as a tack. Things bein’ what they were, she made it a point to carry protection any time she went out to the grocery store for necessaries, or to the Goodwill to check for decent clothes at a fair price. She always wore Granny... Sign in to see full entry.

MICHAEL'S IS FOR CRAFTY PEOPLE
Yesterday, early - before it got up to 93 and intolerable - I headed to Michael's Crafts. I'd run out of white yarn. After an interesting convo with an art demo lady named Susan, I grabbed a cart and headed for the yarn dept at the back corner of the store. Found the white yarn, checked out some... WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
We search for patterns, for connections, for meaning, a reason. But there is none. Random chance rules the day and the universe. There is no plan, no system to beat, no infinite power guiding our circumstance. There is no interested puppet master. Painful "lessons" happen because we exist: they're... Sign in to see full entry.

"GOD BLESS AMERICA"
That's the earworm for today. Although the background music for promos on the news shows seems to be the Washington Post March or some other well-known band music. The promos feature fabulous fireworks displays from years gone by. It's a refreshing change to see news readers and weather gurus... Sign in to see full entry.

JOIN THE CLUB...
It was an invitation I could not refuse. The first notice was the giant trees that frame the sky to the east. They were whipping around, bowing under the force of the downdrafts. Above them the clouds were boiling - either leading the dance or following. Lightning flashed among the clouds, but the... Sign in to see full entry.

THREAD OF A STORY - DUNNO WHERE IT'S GOING
Old scarecrow of a lady on the witness stand, being cross-examined by a prosecutor: dressed in a black suit & white blouse, obviously too big for her, a single gold chain necklace with a cross. The first line of her testimony - in response to a question - "He wanted killing," she said. "Ain't no way... Sign in to see full entry.
