Their veggie soup package mix makes a great base for WileyJohn's fat-burning veggie soup. There's a spinach dip mix that's great, too, and I like the Alfredo noodles. But last week I saw an ad on TV for their concentrated soup stock, and I had to try it. The big decision was chicken or beef? Since I... Sign in to see full entry.

The good, the bad and oh, yeah!
Let's start with the ugly. It's not the racist redneck creep who made the stupid analogy about the golf game between the president and that other guy. You know who I mean. The ugly part is how the media just picked it up and kept ragging on it. They seem totally obsessive-compulsive about this... Sign in to see full entry.

Well, Taps got my mind going
about pillows and mattresses and changes, oh my! I do need a new mattress, but maybe I should switch from a full size to twin. Actually a twin would have a smaller footprint, it would make the bedroom feel bigger and leave room for a reading chair. That closet is totally inadequate -- one of those... Speaking of the Energizer Bunny ...
the answer to the question of a week or ten days ago is: blue flip-flops... Sign in to see full entry.
Bread and Soup
I once fantasized about running a cafe that sold bread and soup. It would be a comfort place, with the scents of bread baking and soup simmering on the back burner. There was a place in Portland (Oregon) where they put their soup in bread "bowls," with the cut out bits served on the side to dunk or... Sign in to see full entry.

Last Days of the Curmudgeon
Andy Rooney does his last regular essay on tonight's "60 Minutes." Newscasters on other networks are paying verbal tribute to the 92-year-old who's finishing up a 30-year gig with tonight's broadcast. Someone said "60 Minutes" is the most respected news show on TV. Maybe so. I remember a time when I... Sign in to see full entry.

The Queens of Mean
One thing I used to love about female impersonators was their sense of humor. When I worked at the college I was drawn to those super-fems who love to rip apart the ladies of show biz and the clothes horses on campus. These bitchy not-broads are like the fashionistas who frequent red carpet parades... Sign in to see full entry.

It's an epidemic...
Everyone's doing it. Daughter Robin's in law school, holding her own and working like hell. Daughter-in-law Liz is going for her masters' degree online while working at Walmart. Son Joe is at trade school two nights a week going for a certificate in HVAC -- there's always work for a guy who can fix... Sign in to see full entry.
Red October
In St. Louis that's the catch phrase for the Cardinals going into the playoffs. They were ten games down, considered by many to be out of it. Kinda like '64 when they were almost counted out. And then came the winning streak, the bats got hot and the wins kept coming. A couple nights ago it was down... Sign in to see full entry.

Nanowrimo? No.
A year ago in August I was up to my eyebrows in ideas, plots, character design, etc. for my NaNoWriMo adventure in November. I was chomping at the bit for the 30-day writing marathon. And I wrote the 50K words, got the "winner" badge from Chris Baty of the Office of Letters and Light as a reward. At... Sign in to see full entry.
