For more years than I can remember, it's been a tradition to get up way early on Thanksgiving and get going with prep for the big meal -- usually on the table around 1:00 or 2:00 in the afternoon, following hours of tantalizing smells of turkey and other good stuff baking and simmering. So today I'm... Sign in to see full entry.

'Tis the season (sorry I neglected that email)
These days I'm on a kick where I don't remember to check the email. Apparently I've been doing this a while -- just checked my Blogit email and found some warm and fuzzy emails from weeks ago, cheerful greetings from dear friends here in Blogitville. That put a grin on my face. This morning started... Sign in to see full entry.

I Am The Clay -- by Chaim Potok
It's copyrighted 1993, but I had not seen this book. Found it yesterday when I made a stop off at the Library to donate some magazines to the free table and check the shelves for work by favorite writers. Even though Books-a-Million has opened, I still prefer the atmosphere of the used bookstore at... Sign in to see full entry.
Clutter or not, here I come. All-ye, all-ye outs in free!
For more than a year now, I've had the flat lid from a big cardboard carton lying like a tray on top of my dryer. It's a catch-all for any number of odds and ends. Never mind that I needed the space for folding, things in the tray were waiting for my decision about what to do with them. Items... Sign in to see full entry.

Mama sings in the kitchen...
Lazybones, sittin in the sun, never gonna get your day's work done sittin in the noonday sun... Mama sang that at times to us kids if we were idling around the kitchen, picking on each other for the heck of it, or if I had my nose in a book when there was weeding to do or wet wash to hang on the... I beg to differ...
On Facebook a bit ago a "friend" mentioned that yesterday she attended a memorial for a friend who'd lived a long, full life. Based on the notice printed a couple days ago, I knew the guy she mentioned. I avoided going to that memorial. She clearly knew him as a colleague -- he was a history prof.,... Yesterday, all my troubles seemed to melt away, (Love those Beatles)
As I looked at yesterday's post about the online wish list for the great grandkids, I realize I missed my point. What I was so clumsily trying to say is today's kids are missing out. In our pre-internet world, the golden days before every town was like every other with its McDonald's and big box... Sign in to see full entry.

Maybe it's just me, but...
On facebook this a.m. my granddaughter's hubby posted their two kid's Christmas wish lists. It was a URL to "Toys R Us." I've been wondering what they'd like. These days it seems to me kids have every imaginable toy and gadget, the house is overrun with kid stuff, teddy bears, video games, trikes,... Sign in to see full entry.

Journey to a poor place.
We're mourning in this neck of the woods, the death of 13-month-old Tyler Dasher, who apparently threw a screaming fit a couple nights ago and his mother hit him in the head. She was twenty, apparently stressed out and impatient. Anyone with kids knows how it is when everyting piles up, the money's... Sign in to see full entry.
