Maybelle

The Squirreled Series...

For the past month I've gone inning after inning with a local team of squirrels. The "pennant" in this contest is the walnut crop, dropping randomly onto my back patio from the neighbor's tree. It was cute and fun at first, to watch them grab a walnut hull and scurry to a fence post or the porch... Nothing I've done this morning

seems uplifting or funny. It's dark, and the moon's shrouded in clouds. Yesterday at five a.m. its reflected light made the face of my garage and the back patio almost as bright as day. Play Ball!

One little thing I do at the Main Street Center is schedule rides for people on our van. We pick 'em up, take 'em to their doctor or grocery store or bring 'em in for a bingo game, and then we take 'em home again. It's like a taxi you schedule in advance.
