The time line for "Simon Says" has been reviewed and adjusted to coincide with recorded history. During the first draft of Katie's story I'd thought the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire was 1914. It happened May 25, 1911. This means Katie's birth date had to be pushed back to 1898 if she was to be... Sign in to see full entry.

Good luck Mr. Gorsky...
Thanks to my nephew Larry who sent this to me in an email... On July 20, 1969, as Commander of the Apollo 11 Lunar Module, Neil Armstrong was the first person to set foot on the moon. His first words after stepping on the moon, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind,” were... Sign in to see full entry.

Minor surgery
My oldest daughter wrote on FB she's home, relaxing, the surgery went okay. Nobody in the family had a clue. She doesn't say what it was. It could have been anything from removal of a suspicious mole to a lifestyle lift. In any case, one of my grandsons posted a WTF response, "why didn't any of your... Sign in to see full entry.

The Great Taco Bell Caper
Some 30 years ago this group of college friends spent a Saturday before finals week doing what college boys do. They played baseball in the afternoon, crashed a frat party after it got too dark to see the ball, and tried to pick up girls. They struck out. Girls can be blunt and rude in the face of... Life in the Rear View Mirror
I don't like it. I want to look at the road ahead. Or just take a deep breath and enjoy today's sunrise, little errands, pleasant encounters, things checked off the "to-do" list. There's a family portrait from 1975 on FB this morning, posted by one of my sons. So many comments, jokes about the... Sign in to see full entry.

Smooth operator...
A couple weeks ago at The Center, one of the ladies confided in me that she'd been just a little bit leery of Jerry - the special guy who moved to a sheltered care facility and workshop. We'd had a farewell party, presented him with a picture of "the gang" that was signed with good wishes... She... Sign in to see full entry.

The last little tulip...
It's gone. Stripped and scattered on the ground like the others. It did bloom for one day, facing the light and dancing in the breeze. I suspect we cannot really ask for more than that in our lives - a day in the sun before we go back into the mystery. I cannot help it. I resent the spiteful impulse... Sign in to see full entry.

Guest Author today: Son Guy's Observation at a Nursing Home
They were a small, fading couple in a big, cacophonous place. I was a lost traveler, stopping in for just a moment to get some directions – or so I thought. They sat in separate wheelchairs right inside the door, sideways of the front desk, tucked into a little alcove intended for guests, pointed... Sign in to see full entry.

The Other Mother
I met the mother of son Guy's girlfriend. Funny, to call her girlfriend, when their status as a couple is much more "serious" than boyfriend-girlfriend, as in dating. Going steady was what we called it in high school. On some TV show last week or so, I heard a term that seems to fit couples living... Sign in to see full entry.

Happy Easter
"In your Easter bonnet, with all the frills upon it, you'll be the grandest lady in the Easter Parade." Didn't want to wake up this morning. Tried to go back to sleep. But at the same time I wanted to be at the kitchen window for Easter sunrise. This holiday was never quite the childhood thrill of... Sign in to see full entry.
