Uncertainty in my life….

Loss or rather the lack of security or empowerment to be self supporting has been a major theme in my life in the last three years. I have weathered many periods of loss in my life, but these last three years have been the most challenging ever. I hesitate to say that because I think to myself, what more could G-d throw at me? I beg not to be tested too much more because it is enough now. Deyanu, Deyanu! However I must also recognise that in each loss there is a gain, albeit painful one. In 2006... The Potamophilous Hens

These Hungry hens scratch and ponder loving rivers, down they wander To gather grubs in gooey mud Pecking away, chuck, cluck, a bud Of gorgeous grass, sweetly gobbled Potamophilous hens warbled Down by the lapping water's edge Scratching and clucking through the day. Just a moan

about the dubious joys of having a sick child at home who is bored. I went to the doctor today and he has told me that my son shouldn't go back to school until Thursday to give him a full week and at first I did not agree but now I do despite the strain I am feeling at the moment. I will have to take him to the pictures and to the beach and to the park to fill up the day and read to him a lot. I love him but I do like my space. I never thought I would feel like this. When he was younger I... Sign in to see full entry.

The Chook Book of Backyard verse

Red hen with a sharp eye on all Goes scratching for some seed, Swallows a nibble of green weed, She is a gossip with a passion Her red feathers are the fashion. She has a beauty of a comb But while she has been on the roam She has gone and lost her hat Goodness me, fancy that, A red hen with no hat! Sign in to see full entry.

Nir has had CHICKEN POX badly

The poor kid has been so sick that he has hardly moved from his bed or the couch in the lounge room. He has had chicken pox sores everywhere imaginable on his poor little body. He has had them in his ears, on his scalp and under his eye lids. I called a locum to get some ointment because I was concerned about a few things. You know that you can get it in your gullet and in your nose (he has and kept sneezing) and in your anus. In short, you name it, the sores can appear there. I guess the only... One of my RPL activities completed today - imaginative only!

1. An article for a travel magazine. The journey began in earnest as we crossed over the border into Afghanistan. The bus, lurching and bumping its way over the rocky track that wound around the Pakistani mountain range, was crowded with travelers of all ages and degrees of hygienic standards. The pungent scents of unwashed bodies, chickens, goats and various condiment spices mingled to create a heavy aroma. I, unused to viewing the world through the gauze slit of the burka that completely... Sign in to see full entry.

For years on end

For years on end Washing by machine Wringing away frothing suds Rinsing in big tubs, Then wringing again, Hanging garments out to flap In the breeze Sheets and work shirts, Trousers and smocks Tea towels and socks Hankies and nappies They danced on the hills hoist With gay abandon til dry, Then brought inside, folded From the line in neat piles Children’s, husband’s, mine, Bathroom and bedroom, Finally down to the kitchen And ironing done By the old wood stove With flat irons heated well Clipped... What has the sexualization of relationships between males and females

What has the sexualization of relationships between males and females bought into our lives? A lot of things are ‘in your face’ in today’s world. We have so little time, we believe and yet we waste it on folly and foolish pursuits and the really important aspects of life suffer. Choosing one’s life partner for example, is an area that is totally misunderstood in the scheme of things. Partners are treated as disposable entities – I don’t like that one, let’s get rid of him or her. Or the old... Sign in to see full entry.

Well the chicken is ok

Yesterday a small boy came into me screaming his head off about the chicken being dead. He was crying and beating his face with his hands in distress, 'The chicken, it dead. It dead. Bobi dead. The cat dead.' More hands flapping and tears and screams. I went out to the yard where the chicken was lying flat on its back on the table. It was in shock but still alive. Its eyes were glazed over. I felt all its limbs which were intact and curbed my first thought which was to quickly put it out of its... Sign in to see full entry.
