Good News!

I passed both tests! #1 test of my peripheral vision showed impairment severe enough so that Medicare will pay for my eyelid surgery Aug. 9th. YAY A partial eye-lift (I really did see better when he taped my eyes open. Parkinson's patients have some condition too long for me to pronounce let alone spell, in which the muscles of the eye relax and impair their vision. My visit to the PD nurse last winter alerted me to that. She said, "You know, Medicare would pay to get your eyes done." They pay... Sign in to see full entry.

Pulmonary Problems?

My latest doctor's visit was to the cardiologist. My newest complaint is that I pant. That's right, I get into bed, or bend over to pick something up and I'm so out of breath, I end up panting. I go to the hospital Thursday to undergo some pulmonary testing. They are testing to see if it is a lung problem. I think it is a Parkinson's problem. PD affects the muscles of the body and breathlessness could be caused by a weakening of the support to the lungs or of the lungs to be able to fill with... Sign in to see full entry.

An evaluation for Parkinson's Stages

Since Parkinson's is a progressively degenerative disease, this is a guideline to help you determine where a loved one or you yourself may be on the scale. I would put myself at 80%. I have a lot of complaints, but I haven't given in. I will not lay down and die! Lay me down like a woman, then we're talking! Take away my natural hormones and the natural dopamine, and I'm still the woman the Mother created; sensual, desirous, giving. Ahem.. back on course. Many of you have asked about the Unified... Good News

I got two "good news" calls from the medical establishment today! I got a call from my cardiologist with the news that I had passed my cholesterol test with flying colors! We eat oatmeal for breakfast most mornings, with maple syrup for sweetener and a dollop of half and half for flavor. I love it! I've also been on a staten for two months. My weight still fluctuates 5 lbs. plus and minus, and I wish it was 30 lbs. minus! Parkinson's is making me weaker, I can tell, and it's up to me to work at... Sign in to see full entry.

A Letter From a Fellow Parkinson's Person

I haven’t had much to report on my Parkinson’s for a while so I thought I would share with you a letter from Bernard, who lives in Syracuse, New York, with his wife Roxanna and his cat, Gato. One symptom Bernard has that I haven’t had happen to me YET, is “freezing.” This is a phenomena that is usually triggered when walking through a doorway or other particular visual signals. Do you remember playing “Statue” as a kid? It’s like that. There are certain steps you can do mentally to break the... Sign in to see full entry.

Beliefs and Friendship

Two friends of my mothers, returning from a vacation trip to Colorado Springs. I believe- That no matter how good a friend is, they're going to hurt you every once in a while and, you must forgive them for that. I am reminded of a more recent encounter with a friend about three years ago. He had just signed on with a Christian-based company that sold alternative health products. He told me how these supplements had rejuvenated and energized both he and his wife. He felt there was a possibility... Sign in to see full entry.

I'd Just Love to Lay You Down

I'd Just Love to Lay You Down I wrote this just before we went on our valentine date, Feb. 14, 2007 Last Saturday night, I was watching this really awful televised talent show they have at a local casino. Jay was away that night photographing a winter formal. I say it was awful because it reminded me of American Idol rejects. I learned a lesson about judging a book by its cover. This 30-something average sized man wearing blue jeans, an ordinary jacket, and a baseball cap pulled down low to... Sign in to see full entry.

IS Parkinson's disease Spiritually Inflicted?

In this picture, I am in labor with Nick, my second child, and we had just arrived at the Holistic Birthing Center in Topeka, Kansas, July 11, 1983. He was born 9 lbs 2 oz, 23 inches, at 2:00 a.m. July 12th. I was 30 years old. The position of my right foot would suggest Parkinson's. My tapping right index finger started at age 30 as well. The fingers on the left hand are also indicative of rigidity associated with PD. A new reader of mine posed this question. Before I go off ranting and raving,... Sign in to see full entry.

I Festinate. Do You?

This is the Diva of Zaftigs, a deli in Brookline, MA, where my sister lives. I get quite a few giggles when people see her on my tee-shirt, especially when I turn around and see her from behind. I like her because it shows that she considers herself one sexy babe! I Festinate. Do You? I have a new style of walking that showed up last August. I'm still doing it and have to consciously think of what to do to avoid it. I festinate. It means I start walking faster and faster, almost as if I'm... Sign in to see full entry.
