Hangin' in...

Another not-so-wintery day... I might get dressed later to go check the mail. I don't mind letting it sit in the box a day or so as I rarely get anything worth opening. I used to run to the mailbox just in case someone wrote me a letter, back before e-mail started making stamps obsolete. Still well here, no symptoms have arisen of any concern. I still taste my food, still sneeze enough sometimes to send the cat fleeing with slow dignity. She is also doing well. Embers lost a lot of weight and... Sign in to see full entry.

Facing into the Perfect Storm

...comes on with a dusting of snow outside, and a chill throughout the house. I woke with a bit of headache and started by making my first cup of coffee in several days. I've been hearing of how slyly addictive caffeine is--Michael Pollan discussed this on NPR the other day, and he does tend to know his stuff--and it is not the worst idea to give it up. But maybe not just now. I've also been reading about how sudden catastrophe brings on a mental/emotional response, especially for those who... Sign in to see full entry.

Thursday check-in

I woke early, went back to sleep... woke again, slept again... Then woke and read and slept some more... That's my greeting to the first day of the official state-wide Stay-home order. During the great closet-renewal, I strained my left arm above and below the elbow. Tendonitis, maybe? Tylenol helps, but it's still pretty sore. So now, as I do other things, I notice how much, for a righty, I use my left arm. Especially in the kitchen, where I open the fridge with the right, lift things out with... Checking in...

Lovely day, sunny and warm enough to have the doors open to let in the spring airs... I'm still well, no signs here or next door of C-19 symptoms. Colorado official is saying this is the week Colorado can expect to get slammed with the numbers. My daughters in Washington State and Maryland are dealing with the staying home as well as anyone. One of the MD grandkids lives on the computer in the best of times, so that's not a great alteration in her life. The other goes back and forth between her... Sign in to see full entry.

How's it going?

Some of us--mostly all of us here in Blogitville--are very well-practiced at physical distancing while remaining in some social contact. Let's make the most of it by checking in here every day or two. I worry... I am fine here, so far. Charlie, next door, has been keeping his distance, but we can holler across the fence in the back yard safely enough, and connect online. My daughter in Seattle has made a point of staying in touch with online video calls. My medicine cabinet and my fridge are... Sign in to see full entry.

Dreaming of owls

I dreamed of owls... One, very large, maybe 25 inches tall, mostly brown and white with a bright yellow beak, almost as long as an eagle's. It flew over my house, perched in a tree overhanging the yard. All the small animals ran for their lives, but the owl seemed uninterested in nabbing any of them. After a while, it flew down to rest on the back of a patio chair. I went closer, and held out a hand to it. It offered no violence, so I touched its back. Again, it accepted this touching as if used... Sign in to see full entry.

Progress and not so much progress

Well, it's raining today, with forecast of high winds and blizzard conditions north and east of here. The wind is already picking up, at 10:30 this morning. And now, it appears to be sleeting out, bits of ice flying in sideways... The mice seem to have been eliminated--for now. My closet is renewed, and many things are now in transparent plastic bins so I can see what's where. I'll be needing to get a footstool, though, to get some things down when they're needed. (I forget what I have if I... Sign in to see full entry.

For St Patrick's Day!

THE SERPENT AND THE SAINT The day was brilliant, the sky and sea their different blues, the lands bright green under the sun, and rich brown where crops would soon be growing. But the Saint, sitting high on the tor above the landscape, saw nothing of the loveliness, and there was a morose look upon him. Beside him was his tall shepherd's crook and a great tome bound in dark leather. The rich scents of early spring wafted on the light breeze. As he sat there upon the jutting rock, a smooth motion... It isn't just enough TP to last through summer...

Yes, it's good to stock up some things to keep a longish-termed sequestered life something like normal. Though not so good to hoard so much that nothing is left for those behind you in line. That's just not neighborly. We are wondering here about a facebook post we saw offering a partially used roll of TP for $15--whether it is a joke, or actual profiteering. But all our efforts to socially distance ourselves in hopes of avoiding this current bug are probably futile. It gets around so slyly, so... Sign in to see full entry.

Still cleaning...

It's the last open-windows day for a while--supposed to snow tomorrow. We have reached the rug-shampooing portion of the closet cleanup. The plan is: disinfectant spray, let sit a while; vacuum again; shampoo; spray. Then I can consider putting clean laundry back in there, shifting yet-to-be-washed stuff downstairs, clearing my bed so I can sleep there again. Meanwhile, the kitchen is also undergoing massive mousive adjustments involving reconfiguring the panty. Now all the mouse-proof goods... Sign in to see full entry.
