So, here is this nasty international bug going around, and travel through large international airports carries a definite risk. Some airlines have decided to allow customers to postpone or cancel flights, and get either a credit or an actual refund. United is one of those. Delta, with whom I booked my return flight, so far is not. So, the Seattle trip is off for now, though it may end up costing us a $200 cancellation fee. Delta may yet change their policy on this under these special... Sign in to see full entry.

"Branching Out"
Here's the first photo wall at the Thrive Salon here in the springs: https://flic.kr/p/2iyptz4 It has been a busy week as Charlie builds his Auto-Billiards game, prepares to run some chat panels and set up his writer table and art show displays. The boxes of his two self-published books arrived today so he will have some merchandise in that department. Kinda last minute on the delivery, but better than the last time when he had only one sample to show. He also does up the numbers for the tax... Sign in to see full entry.

Yoyo weather
Cold and windy and a bit snowy today, again... but the forecast is for 50s and 60s F over the weekend. Another convention this weekend: Whimsycon, devoted to all things Steampunk! I like Steampunk! It is imaginative, it has historic elements and is all about 'found' arts, re-invented, re-imagined. Of course it has its icons that get so overused they become simply too trite, like goggles and gears: all the followers have them. But there is still true imagination in the movement, at the leading... Sign in to see full entry.

and here it is, snowing again, again...
Yesterday, 50s F and today... dropping from 40 in the early morning as the cold wind blows in, and now in the 30s somewhere. The roads are again white, but were dry yesterday, so driving seems not impossible. I finished the photo wall at the salon/gallery Thrive yesterday, but naturally forgot my camera. But on the way home, stopped at Chippy's, the new English fish'n'chips place, and negotiated another consignment deal there for their English goodies shop next door. Meanwhile, I was invited... Woohoo!
I just got back from a visit to a hair salon that is also an art gallery. I did not get my hair done, but I did get wall space for some of my photos! We will be 'Branching Out' with the trees collection, or some of it. They are consigned, with the salon getting 30% of each sale. That's a pretty reasonable commission. Haircuts are $45 there, and they do all the fancy stuff with highlighting and colors and foils and stuff, which gives you an idea of the clientele. At some point, I will be getting... and here it is, snowing again
Big fluffy flakes stacking lightly around on every available surface... a warmish day for snow makes such wads of flakes that again cover several inches of the back porch rail, and pile up on the leaves and branches... Our Adnohr would be delighted! Happily, I have no real need to go out, so I too can enjoy the beauty of it. It will continue tomorrow, at least two forecasters agree, though they think it will be only a couple of inches. They are already several inches wrong. I have an appointment... The wisdom of children
A little girl was asked if she knew what President's Day is about. She said, "It's the day when the President comes out of the White House and if he sees his shadow, he runs back inside and we get one more year of bullshit." Sign in to see full entry.

Making a bed
I have an overnight guest tomorrow, and having changed the guest room into a study, I had to shove a few things around today so she would not have to sleep on the couch. By 'today' of course, I mean 'tonight' and by 'I' that includes a lot of Charlie. The bed itself was in parts and pieces, but they were all here and there around the garage, and now they are all come together in good and comfortable beddiness. When we make a bed, we start with making the bed. Speaking of Charlie, he got in a... Sign in to see full entry.
another hoarfrosty morning
It's so lovely, when every branch and twig, every long needle on the pine trees, and the short blunt one on the fir and spruce, are lightly coated in white frost! It's one of those moments here today. It never lasts, so it is that much more to be enjoyed and appreciated. I am doing so now, in a warm house, breakfast beside me, James Galway playing over the bubbling fish tank and the tocking clocks, and the low hissing fireplace fan... I am one of the lucky ones. Crunchy
I am sitting here in the comfy chair early on a Sunday morning. The sky is clear and the sun shines all through the open curtains across the house. It is warm enough in here, but cold outside: so cold, after a day near 45 F yesterday, that all the slush froze hard overnight, and is likely to stay ice all day today. This is emphasized with every vehicle that slowly crunches by on their way to whatever draws them out so early on a Sunday morning. Charlie's Sundays have lately included rehearsals...
