Message came in just after midnight here-time, so just after 11pm there-time, that Charlie was arrived in Seattle and picked up by his dad. Yay! So far, so good! Here it is warmer today, ushering in spring-like temps over the next several days. So ready for it! I've just spent a pleasant half hour on the deck with my book and afternoon snack. There was a dove there on the nest who was alarmed by my coming out there, so I shifted to a chair a little further away. They are rebuilding the nest,... Sign in to see full entry.

Sunday and Delay...
Sunshine and warmth are predicted for the next several days for the Springs, and the whole 9 days Charlie will be in Seattle, it's all rain. Typical NW winter! He likes rain now, having so little of it in Colorado Springs. I suspect, though, that 9 days will get him over that for a while. Of course, he has to get there first. His scheduled layover has increased as the next flight has been delayed an hour and a half. We are in touch via facebook, so there is that along with his creativity to keep... Comings and Goings
Another very cold night behind us now... Next week predicts three days of temps in the 60s! I am looking forward to it, to the sense of relaxation when I go outside and don't have to layer up with sweaters and stuff, not to feel the bite of the cold. But Charlie won't be here to enjoy it. His dad has invited him to come dog-sit in Seattle while he himself hares off to a fencing tournament, as he does. So, no Charlie around for over a week. I will miss him! I am still leaving the sliding door... Sign in to see full entry.

After another deeply cold night...
The cold is breaking today, with temps climbing from 0 to 25 F, so They predict. We had planned a nice meal out yesterday, going to Red Lobster was the plan. The cold and snow put a kibosh on that, but we managed a nice meal at home. I made tuna salad with celery, jicama, Italian parsley, garlic, mayo and lime juice. I also broke out the smoked salmon that was a Christmas gift from my daughter. He brought the box of fancy crackers. I sliced up some red pepper and put it out with some hummus and... Winter is back this week
It's -4 F this morning, the second day of extreme cold, and there's ~2 inches of snow on the world outside the windows. I did remember to keep the cold tap running in the bathroom so there's still running water there. It's forecast to continue this way until the weekend, when temps will get over freezing again, and next week--up into 50s and even 60s. Olaf came by several times yesterday afternoon, had some nibbles and leaned into some petting. I can tell he didn't come by during the night by... Sign in to see full entry.

It's worth WHAT??
We had a bit of snow last night, and it was cold, down around 15F, and it's just below freezing all day. Zorro came by and spent some time in the warm. I didn't notice when he left, but could see by the coming and going tracks on the back porch that it was so. Now it's warm in the house and the 'keets are drowsing. The yellow gal who was non-stop chirping has finally quit that. I am glad. Could be the other 'keets are glad, too. I've been going through the house with the Lens app on my phone. It... It's all about connections
Dvergr... It's a word that speaks of one who lives in the shadows, on the fringes of society, always there, seldom seen. I have always lived on the verge of convention, even on the edges of non-conformity. It has been a choice, a value picked up in childhood but not truly embraced until recently. That choice, like all choices, comes with costs. It comes with consequences. Any part of me that values membership in a coterie of friends, has felt the apartness, the uncertainty of being wanted or... Sign in to see full entry.

A Pretty Good Friday
Cold and colder today, and once again snow is in the air... and on the back porch and on the street and the truck and the cats of the community, a couple of inches deep. Didn't see this one coming, but I'm ready for it. We went out grocery foraging in the early afternoon, and saw the first flakes as we returned to the truck. All the trees are etched and the darkness of the night is seriously compromised. Yesterday a couple of checks arrived and Charlie deposited them for me by phone. But he... Sign in to see full entry.

a more than usually interesting morning
I woke up after 7 today, and was still waking when the doorbell rang at 8:30. I went and put my pants on... At the door was the guy my landlord sent to service the heater downstair, and he also had to take a look and many notes on the water heater upstairs, to give my landlord an estimate for its replacement. I'd mentioned to him a couple of weeks ago that I didn't seem to be getting as much hot water as I once had. The water heater is in the kitchen behind a shelf which was not impossible to... Looking for The Rose
This morning when I woke up, I considered the book beside me on the pillow where I set it down last night. It's a big book, THE NAME OF THE ROSE (by Umberto Eco) and a very complicated one. It takes a lot longer to read the book than to watch the movie. And I had only about 30 pages left to read. I decided to read it this morning, finally to finish it, because reading it at bedtime, my brain is just too tired for this particular book. It took a couple of hours, but finally, got it done! The... Sign in to see full entry.
