Under a long sunset sky

It's a beautiful evening after a sweetly cool day. It's the longest day of the year, and from here on they are going to be drawing in towards the longest night. I always take note of winter solstice, the shortest day, when we are at the point when days begin to grow again. It's always a moment of joy, knowing that the longer light is already starting. quiet Saturday--so far!

Looks like we are in for a cool day here, and welcome it is, too! This is opening day for the Rennaissance Festival where, once upon a time, Charlie was the Official Court Drummer. He enjoyed most of it, but he never much liked or trusted the owner. One reason I don't think much of him is that he never spends the money to grade the parking field or the Festival grounds themselves. Peachy Morning

Already getting warm on the way to hot this morning... Woke around 7:30 after a tough time getting to sleep last night, and went back to bed for another half hour. Now I'm up again, waiting for the morning pills to take effect before breakfast of cottage cheese and peach! My friend Joanne came over last night to share dinner and watch the last episode of ELIZABETH R. We have been missing our regular get-together for the past few weeks as other things got in the way. Thursday morning

Up early again... a nice clear, cool morning! It will get near 90F this afternoon, but mostly mid-80s from noon to 5pm. No storms expected, though some downpours would be nice. It is so, so dry here! For now, the door to the deck is open and I can hear the birds of morning twittering away, and the noise of the traffic flowing along I-25, about a mile west of here as crows fly. It moves, this sound, like an ocean that is ever in motion, sometimes surging, sometimes going soft, but never stopping.... Sign in to see full entry.

Keeping cool...

So much cooler today! I woke up way early around 5:30, did the morning blood sugar testing, took the half-hour-before-eating pills, managed the half-hour-after-waking breaking of the fast... And went back to bed until Alexa reminded me at 10 that it was insulin time. It was good this morning to discover that today's Jan 6 hearings have been pushed to Thursday. the return of Zool

Another hot one here, and we are only on the edge of the terrible heat across the midwest, east, and south! Charlie is planning on attending a boffer/fighting practice today, and will take lots of water with him. I'm not so sure strenuous activity is a good idea. Maybe they will just sit around and swap boffer stories! We watched GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE last night. It was pretty good, actually, and it is clearly the set up for a new series or movie. Keeping cool...

Preparing for a hot day: closing doors and windows mostly (The Agent of Chaos reserves 7 inches of space to go out to the deck); a/c is on in the living room to better resist the rising temps outside; I'm doing some cleaning up of the downstairs spaces where it will be maybe 10 degrees cooler than upstairs; making ice for iced tea/coffee/water through the day. The movie-going has been postponed to Monday when we can hope for a less occupied theater, and will still be seeking heat-beating spaces... Sign in to see full entry.

Gonna be a hot weekend...

Another too-early waking, though a solid night of sleep was accomplished, led to an early snack, a few minutes of online review of overnight stuff, and going back to bed with a book, and a nap for another couple of hours. It's a lovely day, temps still not quite to 80F, and sunshine filtering through high cloud cover. It will climb through the afternoon to mid/high 80s, and tomorrow they promise 90s. Slow starting Thursday

Unsettled and insufficient sleep last night... Nap this morning after breakfast! Weird little dreams... It's in the 80s today, not nearly as hot as other places but hot enough for me! It's a low-key kind of day... I may go out and shop for some purple potatoes and purple sweet potatoes at Sprouts today, and make a stop at Trader Joe's for some other things I can only find there.
