Today we are waking to winds in the treetops and everywhere between! The forecast warns to expect 20-40 mph with possible 60mph gusts. This is expected to last 2-3 days. There was a time during my first visit to NZ when the wind blew steadily and strongly around my daughter and son-in-law's house northwest of Wellington for a week, until it developed, to my mind, almost a personality, a force of will. NZ is noted for the winds that make plane flights, especially landings, something of a... Sign in to see full entry.

After the meet-up
Charlie's appointment was with the three other people setting up a return of the improv theater thing that he was part of before covid. There have been many changes, a 'purge' of the old board that ran the Theatre D'Art so that now there are only three people on it. These three have brought about a change from that post-college-grad people having fun with theater, to a more mature, professional mindset. One element of that is the attitude shift from "We just want to play with theater" to "We are... Sign in to see full entry.
New Things
Charlie needed a new bathroom scale, so we went by Target. I remembered that my plug-in hot water kettle is on its last legs, so I took the time to look at the options. I found one I liked, not too expensive, and see-through like the old one. Then I looked at air fryers. Came home with one suitable for someone who mostly cooks for just myself. It isn't much bigger than the toaster oven, which I've passed along to Charlie whose toaster is on its way out. I also ended up with new plastic cutting... Sign in to see full entry.

Thursday is Winterday today
And here we are, under a fluffy-looking but heavy blanket of 3-4 inches of snow this morning, and it's still coming down in a casual, careless, possibly confused way. It may last a day or so, but by weekend, temps will be well above freezing, so it will be gone. I've changed more clocks, the ones I see from my comfy chair are now agreeing with the computer clock. My body, however, is not convinced. Charlie has started Noom this past week or so, and seems to be both enjoying the routine of... Sign in to see full entry.

3/14: Pi Day
3.14159... and on and on and on... Mathematical 'pi' has no end point. It is the ratio of a circle's diameter to its circumference. There's the old story of the kid who came back to the farm after some time at college, and was asked to say something educated. The kid said, "Pi R 2 " and the farmer gave him a look, and replied, "All that money, and that's what they taught you? What a waste! Everyone knows pie are not square. Pie are round, cornbread are square!" The Case Institute of Technology's... Sign in to see full entry.

Entering the What Time Is It Really? zone...
So now the evenings will be a little longer which I easily prefer to mornings coming earlier. Around 1pm I will head out to pick up Charlie from his LARP game. It's at a camp about 30 miles from here where they will gather once a month until June, I think, when the actual youth campers will be returning and reclaiming the area for the summer. It will be another pleasant day before things chill off again. Monday will be windy, Tuesday will be sunny and warmish, then it's winter again--so claims... Sign in to see full entry.

Saturday busy-ness
Here it is already the weekend! The day temps will be in the 50s which is positively idyllic after the arctic week. Charlie is LARPing this relatively mild weekend, playing fantasy make-believe for adults. He just got back from Seattle, and here he is gone again! Milo and I possibly share the feels on this. When I go to pick him up on Sunday, Milo will go along for the ride. I spent some time in the back yard just now. There is quite a lot of garden trash, including empty plastic plant... Looking good!
Feeling good this morning: the new haircut looks great, and the experience of getting it was in itself happy and healing! I really like the woman I go to: Finally found the hair artist who really knows her stuff, understands my hair, and even when she really, really wants to do it her way, does it my way anyway. Yesterday she wanted me to keep the length that I wanted to get rid of. We compromised: I got the shortness, and she made it work to her standard. Her name is Ellen Regina if you happen... Tuesday: things are better
The snow has stopped for now, and there is blue sky peeking out from behind high clouds. Charlie is on his way home, just getting off the ground in Seattle now, and will have a six hour layover in Denver, unless he can get onto an early flight to the Springs. That's what happened last time, in fact, and we got home just a little earlier than planned. If not, I will pick him up at the airport 30 minutes from here after 10pm. The three remaining parakeets are quiet now. Earlier one of them was... Sign in to see full entry.

Not my best Monday
Sitting here after five hours of sleep and one of wakefulness... The 'keets beside me are busy and very vocal. I think they are calling out, calling home their missing companion. But she has gone to her greater home as of last night. It was hard. I may write about it, but not today. There are a few inches of snow on the ground, and snow is falling even now. It's 18F after 9 am, and one cat or another left some tracks on the back porch. The back door was closed last night, priority going to... Sign in to see full entry.
