Puzzled...

I have reached the point in this jigsaw puzzle that was started at my housewarming party, where it has become addictive. I can't seem to walk by without stopping to fiddle, and maybe even fiddle a couple of pieces into place. It's at the point where large sections of the image suddenly fit into the edges waiting for them, and other sections suddenly fit into them... The puzzle is an old one, the very first Springbok Editions round jigsaw puzzle, and made of wood instead of paper. It is an... Sign in to see full entry.

Charlie as Prospero

Now I know...

why I take my meds. I didn't reorder in time, and have been several days without the dosage that makes a difference. This is how it feels, when my brain chemistry is out of whack, and the subtle little whispers begin to remind me of untrue things, about my character and general unworthiness, the mystery of what's so wrong with me that no one comes to my parties or remembers I exist, if I am not in front of them at the moment... the inevitability of futility and disappointment, should I dare to... Biscuit Day!

Sausage (breakfast) and apple... ham and swiss... broccoli, corn, mushrooms, onion and leek That was today's spread, and though not many dropped by for Biscuit Day, those who did enjoyed them, and ate plenty! Should anyone turn up now, there are still two batches of uncooked dough. Maybe I will cook em up and bring them to the closing night of A Tempestuous Noise! Charlie and I have been watching episodes of THE WEST WING, I may have mentioned this before. Now, I'd vote for that White House any... Sign in to see full entry.

"Clay Introspective"

Last night, I went to the Student Directors One Act Showcase. Charlie, of all the directing students, was the only one who wrote his own play, besides directing it. It's a challenging piece for actors, because pretty much all they do physically is sit in chairs, the setting being a TV studio, where one is the interviewer, the other, the interviewee. So all the engagement has to come from the writing, and how well the actors use body language and timing. The situation is interesting: Clay Kossey... Sign in to see full entry.

Bright and sunny this morning

and around 5-6 inches on the railing. The mountain-top is obscured by cloud. The thermometer out on the porch is around freezing now, at 8AM. Charlie and I have a happy little ritual lately, on evenings or afternoons when he has the time: we sit and call up from Netflix, episodes in their proper order of THE WEST WING, one of the best TV shows ever. Right up there with ST. ELSEWHERE and HILL STREET BLUES. All of them had exceptional ensemble casts, ongoing story, and very clever, intelligent,... Sign in to see full entry.

They said it would snow...

...and when I got up this morning, I laughed: it was wet, but certainly not snowing. It's 4PM now, and there are at least 4 inches on the back porch rail. Happy May Day! My Roomer is a young fellow, in his mid-20s. Conversation in the kitchen, beginning when he pulled the frozen chicken wings--his purchase--from the freezer: *heavy sigh* *non-response* "There are no microwave directions." "Usually that means they don't recommend microwaving a product." *sigh* and proceeds to microwave them.... Sign in to see full entry.

balmy spring days!

It's sunny with some light clouds, some high-atmosphere stuff, too. The mountain is bright, mainly because of all the snow. We are supposed to have temps in the mid to high 70s the next couple of days, with nights 40F and above. Snow on Wednesday... There are a lot of mourning doves in the neighborhood. Two of them hang around the big blue spruce in the front yard, and the tree to the left, which I will identify when the leaves come out, and when I stand on the deck in the morning, I can see... It's a lovely day!

The temps are finally into the 70s F for the next few days, and I scorn the weather forecast that calls for snow on Wednesday. I hung up a little hummingbird feeder off the deck to day, and one of those little suet cages a little further off, where any incidental mess will fall on the ground, not the porch. My seeds remain out of sight, but I did get some organic dirt and after an overnight soak, planted the sugar snap peas. While I was sitting on the deck having breakfast, one of the local... savory biscuits

You can have plain biscuits, the American baked dumpling sort of thing, as opposed to English biscuits which in American parlance, are cookies. You can have shortcake, which is a sweet biscuit. Yesterday, I played with the idea of savory biscuits. I sauteed some sweet onions, cut up some ham and diced some muenster cheese, mixed these things into the dry bisquick, the low-fat kind, splashed in some water, and made drop biscuits, just splatting a lump of batter on the baking sheet. They went into... Sign in to see full entry.
