"Well, here we are back in the car again..."

The weather report online said it was in the 70s, near 80sF, and sunny days, clear nights... The guy driving the plane said, "Light rain in Seattle, and 61 degrees." And so it was, when we touched down near 10PM. Waking this morning in my old room, my comfortable old bed, I see in daylight the lush green of the northwest spring, fully leafed-out, and wet. When I was here a month ago, the houses beyond the woods were visible. Now--we could be in some deep, secluded glade of the rainforest, and no... Sign in to see full entry.

The Uneasy Mother

Mothering isn't easy. In fact, it is one of the most demanding jobs in the world, and one of the very most important to get right. Knowing how important that is, makes it that more demanding, and makes mothers who are so afraid they aren't up to it, and wrestle with guilt and feelings of shame and inadequacy when perfection remains elusive... Well, I'm here to tell you what I heard from someone else--guy named Bruno Bettelheim--that mothers ( he said "parents" in fact, but today isn't Parent's... Sign in to see full entry.

Sigh... 20-something acting like ... much younger.

I asked him days ago if he could drive me to the airport on Sunday afternoon. He seemed to think it over, then said, sure he could. No problem. Sunday afternoon. This guy can be kinda flaky, but this seemed safe enough--soon enough and simple. But last night I heard from my roomer, who is a friend of his, that, in fact, he can't do it, his car might not be up to it. That's annoying and very inconvenient. But what really ticks me off was that he didn't tell me as soon as he knew, he didn't tell... Sign in to see full entry.

Everything is up in the air for Mom's Day

I sent off a card to my mom, and it should get there Saturday. As for me, Sunday evening I will be flying away for another week in Olympia, while Charlie's dad has his eye surgery. This time, flying: it is a lot cheaper as well as faster, compared to driving or any other form of transport, unless they've got that beaming technology down by now. Wouldn't that be great? At first, we'd all have to buy tickets and stand in long lines, like security lines, only the booth at the end of the line simply... Sign in to see full entry.

grey day in the Springs

Days of soft rain are not usual in this part of the world, and so they are more respected and even relished, unlike the perpetual precip that (literally) rains down on Seattle and Puget Sound and the Olympic Peninsula. Thanks to that rain, there are the wonderfully hoary old rain forests. But it still gets tedious, living with it far from those forests. Shiny, wet, grey, dismal city streets... On a trip through northern California, years ago, I recall sitting in a diner hearing people going on... Sign in to see full entry.

Puzzled...

I have reached the point in this jigsaw puzzle that was started at my housewarming party, where it has become addictive. I can't seem to walk by without stopping to fiddle, and maybe even fiddle a couple of pieces into place. It's at the point where large sections of the image suddenly fit into the edges waiting for them, and other sections suddenly fit into them... The puzzle is an old one, the very first Springbok Editions round jigsaw puzzle, and made of wood instead of paper. It is an... Sign in to see full entry.

Now I know...

why I take my meds. I didn't reorder in time, and have been several days without the dosage that makes a difference. This is how it feels, when my brain chemistry is out of whack, and the subtle little whispers begin to remind me of untrue things, about my character and general unworthiness, the mystery of what's so wrong with me that no one comes to my parties or remembers I exist, if I am not in front of them at the moment... the inevitability of futility and disappointment, should I dare to... Biscuit Day!

Sausage (breakfast) and apple... ham and swiss... broccoli, corn, mushrooms, onion and leek That was today's spread, and though not many dropped by for Biscuit Day, those who did enjoyed them, and ate plenty! Should anyone turn up now, there are still two batches of uncooked dough. Maybe I will cook em up and bring them to the closing night of A Tempestuous Noise! Charlie and I have been watching episodes of THE WEST WING, I may have mentioned this before. Now, I'd vote for that White House any... Sign in to see full entry.

"Clay Introspective"

Last night, I went to the Student Directors One Act Showcase. Charlie, of all the directing students, was the only one who wrote his own play, besides directing it. It's a challenging piece for actors, because pretty much all they do physically is sit in chairs, the setting being a TV studio, where one is the interviewer, the other, the interviewee. So all the engagement has to come from the writing, and how well the actors use body language and timing. The situation is interesting: Clay Kossey... Sign in to see full entry.
