That he thought Davy was a blond, and I am thinking this might be why: http://www.flickr.com/photos/therovingeye/7943962900/ Violetta gave me some anxious moments last night, when I couldn't find her anywhere in the house, at bed-time. The back door had been open, but she has never gone further than just past the bottom of the steps into the back yard. She scoots right back, too, as soon as I call her. Timid, she is... and it seemed unlikely she'd actually jumped the fence. But possible. I got... Sign in to see full entry.

Listening to the morning
A red-winged blackbird just sang out from the top of a nearby tree. They fly up from the reeds in the little wetland area a block away, where a stream slides through a low area, and has been granted about 100 feet of land on either side, sloping down from city streets and buildings. The blackbirds are singing down there all the time, so it's a treat to hear one's bright trill, up here. Other songbirds are singing loudly and a lot. The mourning doves' voices are like soft caws as they fly from... Sign in to see full entry.

The wind is once again tossing the tree tops and shifting the deck furniture, and sifting fine dust into all the downstairs windowframes. It is a rare thing, a full day of stillness, it seems. Of course, it seems cooler because of it, but it also makes things dryer, especially when the humidity is below 10% as it has been lately. Later, the wind will die down, most likely, and the evening will be quiet and calm. There is a lot of cloud and smoke in the sky. It's hard to see which is which, but... Sign in to see full entry.

I knew there was poetry ready to surface...
Heat of the Day The sun glares down on white concrete that once warmed, now stings little bare feet. Upon the couch, or floor or chair or... really, anywhere a cat can go, limbs akimbo, bellyfur exposed, she stretches out long as cat can be, cat-naps away the heat of the day. The wind is blowing gustily
enough to shift the higher profile deck furniture around, so I brought those two chairs indoors. There is a great deal of dust in the air between here and the Peak. We are on the start of an incline up towards the plains, so there is a vale between the plains and peaks, that sometimes gets all stirred up so you can't even see the mountains! Great news: Three of my beans have popped and are unfolding those first leaves! And I believe that some tiny green stems are discernible in the sweet-pea... Sign in to see full entry.
Movie Night
After a long, hot day, Charlie came over with the last three episodes of GAME OF THRONES, that one of his friends records for us. We sat in the new guest room where it's cooler than upstairs, as I may have mentioned before, and watched the first two, then came upstairs to make bison burgers which were very tasty, but I slopped too much oil in the pan: when I flipped the first one, the oil splattered, and I was in the way of some of it. Not much, it only tingles some on a bit of my right forearm.... Sign in to see full entry.

Some vulgar conversation about money, sales and deals
It's a quiet Sunday noon here, now. Later, I will be driving my lad up to Denver for a must-attend meeting. I don't look forward to navigating through Denver downtown, or looking for parking. But it must be attended to. Yesterday was another day of great thrift store finds! Another $12.50 recliner, this one for downstairs, in the guest room. A round table on short legs--table is the size of a family table at a Chinese restaurant--and is in the garage which is turning into a gaming space for any... Sign in to see full entry.

Long day... not too hot...
There as a good rumbly thunderstorm that didn't bring near enough rain. Not a great thing, a lightning storm with only a little wet. That's how fires start the forests and grasslands. We are supposed to have more thunderstorm tomorrow--I hope the rain buckets down! Today I got the guest room set up with a twin bed arranged daybed-fashion under the window, a dresser which fits neatly in the closet, and a couple of lamps. It needs a few more things like a bedside table and maybe a small desk, but... Sign in to see full entry.
The Mountain is back
It was gone all day yesterday, hidden behind a low overcast sky that persisted from before dawn, into the next night. But this morning, there is not a cloud in view, and Pike's Peak is where it should be, and more bare of snow than it was last time I saw it. The hot days are coming, with temps in the 90s. I will have the curtains closed, and spend a lot of time downstairs where the thermometer reads about 12 degrees cooler than upstairs on hot days. The porch doors will be open until the sun...
