My housemate has decided to move out. More than a day's notice would have been fair, but no... a mark of immaturity, to be sure. Saved up all his complaints for the day he decided to tell me he has already moved. How do I feel about it? Well, I almost told him last week, to plan on moving. But I relented, things seemed to be all right. Apparently not so much. There was a time I would have had a list of things to wound him with. But... why bother? I feel... angry... glad... disgusted... and now... Sign in to see full entry.

The right company
Some weeks ago, Charlie applied to work at a call center in a company that handles incoming problem/complaint calls from customers of a certain tech company. They were willing to hire him, but he couldn't attend the Saturday trainings, because of the Ren Fest. He applied to another similar company and was hired, required to come to trainings on weekdays, and the training started this week, after the Ren Fest closed, and not on Saturdays. We've known people who worked for the first company, who... Sign in to see full entry.

Dance!
My elder daughter has been doing middle-eastern dance now, for several years. She has been part of and part owner of Sahara Treasures, as you may have seen a few images down my flickr photostream. She has recently been invited to join another troupe, the prestigious Silk Road Dance Company, doing dances of Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and other 'stans' of that part of the world. The costuming is authentic and fabulous!... Sign in to see full entry.
I signed a contract today
for the serial and book publication of one of my short novels. It is a fairly young, grassroots company called Eat Your Serial Press, affiliated with Maglomaniac which is a sort of grand blogging site. The story is called HEAT and is, in fact, rather warm in places. The serialization is scheduled to begin in mid-October. When it is concluded, the e-book will be released, and that's when I will start seeing some royalties. I will let you know, of course, and provide linkage. Sign in to see full entry.

Home
Home is where the cat is... Home is where you make your own rules... Home is where you can relax... Well, here I am, home. My plants did not get properly watered, and the rose is a mess of rotted buds and broken and rusty leaves. Several plants, if they were watered at all, were not near watered enough. *sigh* Violetta is fine, well-fed, and glad to see me back where I belong, her personal warm spot. The fish are all still swimming. Charlie wasn't able to be at the airport, but came over this... Sign in to see full entry.

Again...
Packing... again. Getting ready to go to the airport... again. Preparing for the journey through gates and corridors and escalators going-up and on-the-flat... again. Stopping for a spicy salad at California Burrito... again. Waiting... again for the same flight, 6349 to be delayed... again. At least this time, I won't be bumping myself voluntarily... again. Ripley has an appointment several days early, to get the surgical staples removed from his knee, but will have to remain in his quiet-time... Sign in to see full entry.

Dogs and luggage
Dogs know when someone is leaving for a while: they understand what luggage means. Their behavior can reflect their sadness even before someone leaves, just because the luggage has come out of the closet and is headed towards the door. We are doing our best to de-sensitize Marika's dogs to the Ominous Luggage. We left again, lugging the luggage, for the second time... drove away... and came back again. Yes... back again. The flight was delayed again, though only an hour... then, another hour and... Sign in to see full entry.

A few more shots before leaving.
My elder daughter has got a new kitten... And a few more plants caught my eye, too. https://www.flickr.com/photos/therovingeye/ Sign in to see full entry.

A quiet day with sunshine
It started grey, but towards noon the grey burned off and the sun lit up the flowers and lawns. We walked down to a nice French bakery/restaurant and shared two tartines. One was turkey over mashed avocado--Marika says this is something that seems popular over the pond--with cucumber over top, and some thin-sliced carrot. The other: smoked salmon with dill and scallions, and slices of avocado. These are delicate open-faced sandwiches, crustless. Ripley is doing well: swelling has gone down and...
