another update: here, another 5 days

While she was trying to manage Ripley's needs this morning, and finding things very awkward and stressful, Marika asked if I could stay a few days longer. So--I have a new reservation for next Tuesday. She's paying the change costs... another reason I choose Southwest, if there is a choice: no change fees, as well as two free checked bags. Now that's settled, she has relaxed, and gone off to work. Ripley has removed his ear-crushing collar, and I won't put it back on him unless he starts... Sign in to see full entry.

Day after surgery

Ripley is snoring softly in his crate and in his collar, sedated for the next 4 hours or so. The first night home, he could not climb the stairs to where he usually sleeps by Marika's bed, so she shifted her bedding to the couch downstairs. Cooper slept on my bed behind my knees. That dog is a sound-sleeping mini-mountain! He favors the center of the bed, so anyone else has to kind of work around him. One of the cats slept not in his favorite nest upstairs, in a valley between two bed-pillows,... Sign in to see full entry.

Ripley's home

...in his crate with the blanket overtop to make it more den-like. He is wearing the infamous Cone, and panting hard. He can't be any too comfortable, now he is recovery mode with staples in his leg for the next week or so. The panting is not from heat, the house is air conditioned, so I fear it may be his manner of coping with pain and a certain degree of distress. The next two weeks will be the hardest. Oh, did I hear someone ask why I am also back in the house, when I was supposed to be... Sign in to see full entry.

all my bags are packed...

Everything I need is stowed, ready to go. This is the last time, most likely, that I will see this house. They will sell it in September, just over 2 years since they bought it, which means great tax savings: under 2 years, and the government considers it 'flipped.' That makes it capital gains, I guess. They did improve it, but not for the sake of profit. Of course, they can't buy a new place in England (somewhere near Manchester) until this sells. She has a real estate paper here, considering... BlackSalt

It's a fish market and restaurant in DC where my daughter and I had our last dinner of this visit. http://www.blacksaltrestaurant.com/dinner-menu/starters/ Check out the loveliness of this menu! I had soft-shelled crab over a bed of some sort of vegie and ham stew(not on this menu), after an appetizer of a very good crab cake. For dessert, we shared key lime pie. She had a snifter of Grand Marnier, too. Up front, there are cases full of wonderful fishes of many kinds resting on crushed ice: you... Sign in to see full entry.

Stories of England

My daughter enjoyed her trip, came home full of stories of adventures in Amsterdam and London. There was a restaurant that served them 16 course of terribly haute cuisine, each plate a fancy bite of beautiful edibility. There was a ride through Hyde Park and a very large-footed horse. They saw Shakespeare's RICHARD III starring Martin Freeman (aka Bilbo Baggins, aka Dr John Watson). Finally, they went to see Monty Python's Live Reunion (Mostly). The "mostly" refers to Graham Chapman who died... Sign in to see full entry.

Up and running... here's Cooper!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/therovingeye/ I have been told that Cooper is not allowed to chew tennis balls any more, as it damages his teeth. So... the one he had half-stripped of its fur has now mysteriously vanished. Sign in to see full entry.

Cooper

It's a beautiful day! Here it is, afternoon, and the temperature is cool, the humidity is moderate, and the sun is shining. Cooper and I were out in the yard for a while, playing with a ball he found on one of our walks. He loves to play ball! He noses the tennis ball here and there, pushing it between my feet so I will take the hint and throw the ball. He catches it at a dead run, brings it back and flings it 3 feet at me: "Again!" He is so fast on his feet, so quick with his mouth, it's just... Sign in to see full entry.

Dancing feet!

At the Irish fest, I caught a few moments of Granddaughter Zoe's flying feet... and the next day, her mom, my elder daughter Anne participated in some middle-eastern dancing in Baltimore. Find them here, among the flowers... and the rising moon, over a couple of Irish bands. https://www.flickr.com/photos/therovingeye/ Sign in to see full entry.
