Dad...

I imagine you are somewhere out there among the stars, touring the planets, getting to know them, hanging out with the likes of Galileo and Ptolemy, Einstein, Bob Shaw and the host of other explorers and scientists who spent a time here, and then went on. Maybe there are some astronomers from the Plieidies in ongoing discussion of why beings of other worlds would ever find it worth the energy costs to visit that little backwater planet we call Earth, way out along the outer spiral arm of the... Oh, the sky last night!

Sunset followed storm, and the clouds were amazing! https://flic.kr/p/tTcL6W Start here... click to the left to see the show in proper order. The morning is clear and bright, Pike's Peak looks big again... Sign in to see full entry.

Beautiful summer day!

Lovely morning, warm but not hot afternoon--until the sun comes around and starts shining through the front windows. Last night the sky was so clear that Venus and Jupiter were brilliant, and for some reason, that--a wondrous bright night sky--gets my yearning going so it almost hurts. In fact, I watched that same sight as the planets come closer to each other all the nights of this month, on clear evenings in England. Over there, as far north as it is, sunset is still evident at 11pm. Here,... Sign in to see full entry.

Sanctuary!

Daughter Marika has officially announced, through a GoFundMe campaign, the start of the Hollin Hall Farm Sanctuary! She has been dreaming of this and making herself ready for it since she was a kid: having enough land to provide safety and comfort to various wild and domestic critters. She has already started with fostering rescued hedgehogs for a short time until they are ready to return to the wild. Each one will spend about two weeks in a little hutch, then she opens the door and leaves the... Sign in to see full entry.

Monday...

Last week I bought a lovely big hanging basket overflowing with angel-wing begonia: wing-shaped bright green leaves and cascades of long, pinkish orangey red blossoms, and hung it out on the deck: so the garden season of the deck begins! And yesterday, I saw the first hummingbird of the summer investigating those most hummer-attractive flowers! Charlie has three 10-12 hour work days this week, installing a show during the show's tech week. It is a concert with a chorale of some sort, and he's... Sign in to see full entry.

Forsooth!

This morning, clear and cool and lovely, Charlie put on his Official Court Drummer kit and went off to open the 2015 Colorado Renaissance Festival. He travels with another member of the Court, so our old truck did not have to make the trip, and I did not give into the temptation to spend 10 hours wandering about the Festival, exhausting myself when I am already not feeling 100%. Jet lag... heat lag... maybe something I ate... It is a wiser course to stay home, napping at will. It is now... Sign in to see full entry.

Weighty thoughts...

Stepped on the scale this morning... and did some figuring, some connection of dots over the past few years, and the bottom line: In the past 11 years I have dropped 65 lbs. I used to walk around, even up stairs and long slopes with those 65 lbs. I used to carry them around on my feet and knees and spine. If I were to now put on a coat of many pockets, and fill those pockets with 65 lbs of stuff. I would not be able to stand, let alone go up stairs! If I put that coat on today loaded with 15 or... Annicita, you asked for this...

Downham Village rests under Pendle Hill in northern Lancashire, a village owned by one man, Lord Clitheroe, who likes things the way they were. There are no antennas or satellite dishes allowed, no overhead utilities--only vehicles owned by his tenants who live in this sweet corner of the Ribble Valley--fewer than 200 residents. Film makers love this place! https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/05D750 Sign in to see full entry.

In flight... and landed

Here are yesterday's in-flight entertainment. Being on the left and mostly sunny side of the plane, even with a window seat, photos aren't going to do justice to the view, so it is mostly the start of the flight to Atlanta, and the last hour of the flight to Colorado Springs. What I can't show you is the route that went northwestwards over the Atlantic, passing south of Greenland (probably visible out someone else's window, dammit, not mine!) then turned southwest to fly over Newfoundland and... Bags are packed and ready to go...

They're standing there beside the door... As comfortable as I am in this quiet green place, with morning birds singing outside the window, and sunlight coming between the clouds to light the valley in patches, I am glad to be heading back to my 'real' world where there is much to do before I can seriously consider things like moving for real to this part of the world. Yesterday evening we had dinner in a nice little town nearby which is owned entirely by Lord Clitherow, and rented to residents,... Sign in to see full entry.
