Oh my... Oh dear...

Well, I've done it now... The Rambling Rose is mine, and I am learning how to drive with a small house dragging behind me. I am pleased and excited and very anxious about the driving. One might say, a bit terrified. But every day from here on, I'll be getting more used to it and familiar with the strange way the brakes work, accustomed to the unaccustomed height (10 feet) and weight (1200 lbs empty). Getting in the habit of driving slowly and carefully will come easily. The previous owners, two... Sign in to see full entry.

Weekend Shenanigans

This past weekend was Starfest in Denver, a large and renowned science fiction convention that has, among other activities, an art show/auction to which Charlie wanted to add his Vools and other creations. And I wanted to find the fine ceramics of Peri Charlifu. If you google the name, you can not only see his Agean Goods site, you will also get to see some photos of this charming hobbity fellow! I've collected a few pieces of his work each time I find him at a show. This weekend I bid on three... Sign in to see full entry.

Now, here's a thing...

A couple of years ago, I was lucky enough to see a film of the stage production of WARHORSE. I wrote about it here, as I recall, it was so wonderful, magical and moving. The puppetry is astonishing: the kind of Victorian mechanical 'steampunk' puppet/horse itself, and the way it is handled by the several puppeteers. Found this today... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1q9TXcng7o Warning: this Youtube video leads to others... I hope you have nothing else to do this morning! Sign in to see full entry.

The bird is back

The northern flicker who pounded and pecked a nesting hole in the wall outside my closet last year is at it again. Again, I stick my head over the deck railing and tell him, firmly, "Go away," and usually he does. Though today he just stared at me until I waved my arm at him. It's all in the timing. Last year I was about to leave for several weeks, and knew he'd have his nest hole before I got back, unbothered by firm words and flailings. And now, again, though about two months earlier (such a... Sign in to see full entry.

Getting ready...

In a few minutes, it will be time to drive the new old truck to get a new dash mat installed--I do hate the reflection of the dash in the windshield when driving sunwards! It is also getting a box installed that will have the duty of controlling the brakes of the trailer, a very useful thing for downhill stretches along which you don't want the trailer traveling faster than the truck, or actually, any occasion when you apply brakes at all. Crumpet and Alice were up and busy when the rising... Sign in to see full entry.

The New Gerbilhouse

Yesterday, Alice and Crumpet moved into new digs--an appropriate term for gerbils' houses. This morning the sun shone in through the east-facing glass door and illuminated the new habitat and the girls woke up to continue exploring and adjusting the furnishings. Adjusting, of course, is done mostly with teeth, but gravity also sometimes takes a hand. https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/ynW170 Sign in to see full entry.

We went to a show tonight...

It looked like it was going to be exotic and intense with color and drama. What it was, was loud, relentlessly amplified, aggressive--even assaultive--music in a room no deeper than 4 rows of seats facing about the same width of floor/stage. Such a very small house, amplification rattles the walls and the teeth and comes up through the floor and feet and butt... Yet, when I looked around at the rest of the audience, I saw not a single person moving with the beat, no one joining themselves to the... Sign in to see full entry.

I can see clearly now...

Had an eye exam yesterday and ordered new spectacles. It will be a near thing, whether they come in before I need to leave on the coming road trip. Two of em--Office lenses for clarity within 8 feet of my eyes, and the Driving lenses for distances which will bring both eyes to 20/20, where the right is currently 20/50. And then, the 'clip on' sunglasses. These aren't like the ones on the bridge hinge, that are very nearly as stylish as the ones that go over your whole regular glasses. They are... Caucus Watching

I still vote in Washington State, so attended the Democratic Caucus here in Colorado as an observer only. Some weird rules, they have here! For one, the caucus hours are from 6:30 pm when the doors open--anyone not in the building by 7pm can't particiapate--until 9 pm. So, it is a very limited process, unlike a primary where voters come when they can and vote, and leave. First, it was a bit of a madhouse as participants from maybe 10 precincts signed in, their names being checked on the voting... Sign in to see full entry.

Gloating...

I filled the truck's gas tank today, with my discount from the grocery store. It's a 34 gallon tank, down to just below the quarter full mark. Turns out, that was ~6.5 gallons. So--27.5 gallons... mid-grade... discounted.70/gal... $29. It wasn't all that long ago it would have taken $50 or more to fill the 12 gallon tank on the little car, or over $80 to fill the 22 gallon tank on the old truck. I know these times won't last, nor these gas prices, but... Woohoo! Good time for a road trip, and... Sign in to see full entry.
