Hot and Not... and New!

While so many of you are enduring extreme heat, it is cooler here, low 80sF expected today. Sometimes Colorado Springs seems like it is in a temperature-protected zone of some kind, in these past several years as extremes grow elsewhere. I have a guestroom... Just sayin... Back to the Con today, dressed up a bit in hobbit fashion. It looks good and is quite comfortable--no Victorian corsets for this one! Even in costuming for parties like this one, I am all about comfort. Got enough little aches... Sign in to see full entry.

Afters...

The sunlight was filtered through smokey haze this morning, a strange, orange dim atmosphere. Colorado has several big fires burning, the largest a few miles southwest of here that has been now designated the third largest in Colorado's recorded history. A man has been arrested and charged with arson for deliberately setting this one and a couple of others. No one was ever charged for the Waldo Canyon or Black Forest fires. We got to WesterCon just about 2pm, and first things first, I went up to... Sign in to see full entry.

Fourth of July light shows and Tribbles.

As soon as the evening light began to fade, the neighbors started with their cannon-like explosives, their illegal fireworks. Then when darkness had finally settled in, there was a magnificent loud rumble... Thunder! And soon, heavy rain and more lightning and thunder totally put paid to the neighbor's noisy show. So, fires, panicked animals or PTSD sufferers were kept to a minimum, and the light show was still grand! Today Charlie is packing up his dreadful Wasteland Bears, his other... Sunset, Embers, and Perishables.

Last night, the first sunset of July--wow, July? Already?--was lovely after a comfortable day in the mid-80s F. Embers and I both enjoyed it, as the photos show. https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/3v49u8 Grocery-shopping is always a risky business. My mom rarely sent Dad to do the shopping because, even with a list, he would always throw her budget out and come home with impulsive buys that looked interesting. Of course, she was the one who came home one day with a live lobster. As a gourmet... Sign in to see full entry.

Cool...

The wind came in the night, blowing in the cool weather while Alexa played Distant Thunderstorm which is a great aid to sleep. But somehow, sleep was not happening. Well, it happened as I read, then as soon as I put the book aside, and the reading glasses, and turned out the light, there was Something. Hunger... well, I had not been hungry for dinner before bedtime, not until midnight. At midnight, I had some dinner, and went back to bed with my book. The book fell from my hand several times... Going to the movies

Yesterday afternoon, with temps at 102F when we got there at 1:30, we sat in the cool of the theater and watched two movies--not emerging again until 7:30 when the sun was going down behind some clouds and the thermometer in the truck read 92. We saw DEADPOOL 2, one that Charlie hesitantly recommended to me, considering me perhaps a bit too old to enjoy the vulgarities laced through the humor. It is, in fact, a pretty silly movie with a worthy theme: Protect the child from traumas that lie... Sign in to see full entry.

Hot days continuing...

Cool again this morning... but it won't last. We have been considering where to find the cool this afternoon. It might be a movie day. Yesterday evening it was still 90F after 7pm, so maybe two movies. Yesterday morning the fishies got a water change, and the old tank downstairs finally got cleaned and cleared and stored on a shelf. The big white goldfish is looking good, growing her tail back, seemingly enjoying the company of the others, some of whom have grown considerably, all of whom have... Sign in to see full entry.

Hot days, hot nights...

It's just below 60F this morning, and I am wearing an extra shirt over a tank-top, but the forecast for the next few days is highs over 90, even nearing 100. This kind of heat is not just unpleasant, it is bad for me, so I will be seeking a cool place to be this afternoon, and tomorrow, and especially Thursday. Charlie will work today and Friday, getting in his 20 hours on the cooler hot days. The office there doesn't open before 10am, but it would be great if they'd trust him with the key to... I'm in the movie!

Yesterday I volunteered to show up with the truck at a spot about 25 miles from here, to participate in a 'proof of concept' film a friend is making, to try to find backers for a project he has been wanting to make for several years now. The first attempt, about 3 years ago, was lost, and he had to begin all over again. He has had to re-do several times now, but has finally reached this stage of the project, making a short scene that shows his abilities and commitment. Just as I was getting set... Dog Park Day!

Milo had his first trip to the dog park today. Charlie has been training him to come back when called, and when he was satisfied that Milo has that trick down, it was time to introduce him to the the Bear Creek Dog Park. We went early, thinking that perhaps there would be fewer dogs. Well, if that was fewer, more would be a LOT of dogs! So many breeds, mixed to greater or lesser degrees--so many shapes and sizes, colors, furs long and short... And most all of them, grinning with dog-joy! I... Sign in to see full entry.
