Embers had one of those terrible excursions to the vet this morning, the first well-cat check since I've had her, as she was never well before. She was very distressed on the ride there, arrived panting heavily--not a good sign in an elderly cat--so they took her back immediately and gave her oxygen to calm her down. The carrier required some cleanup, and so did she. The rest of the visit was of no great upset: she had her shots, a couple of needles for fluid extractions, and the worst--a nail... I met Billy Boyd today.
If the name doesn't ring a bell, think of Pippin Took in LORD OF THE RINGS, and Bonden in MASTER AND COMMANDER. Pippin and his best friend Merry start off in LOTR as comic relief and end the long journey as heroes. With all the disgruntles I feel about some of Peter Jackson's artistic choices for this tale, I have always felt that he totally nailed it in his casting of the hobbits. They have always been my favorites. Sometime around 2005, I wrote a poem, DUET, in which they have a chat. This... Sign in to see full entry.

One clear day...
By the afternoon of the crystal clear morning a couple of days ago, the smokey haze was back, and even though we are having sunny days, they are not clear. The gallery curator says she wants to hang several of my pieces on consignment, as opposed to it being a gallery show. So I have ordered seven new ones with the proper backings for wire-hanging. I've chosen four from Whitby Abbey and two from Whalley Abbey, one from Sawley Abbey. They go in on Sept 5. I've been reading HAVING OUR SAY, the... Sign in to see full entry.

Lovely day!
The past several days of quiet rainfall have gently cleaned the air at last, and the mountains are back, clear as clear alongside Colorado Springs. It will be warm today, mid 80s, so summer is quite done with us. I still hope for a long, long autumn. An e-mail came yesterday from a local frame-shop/gallery. Several months ago I had a conversation with the owners about displaying my photography. I'll call them later this morning. The curator is interested particularly in my "Rubble" collection.... What's lost
It is grey outside today, and after a long quiet 'female' rain overnight, the gardens and yards are damp, but the air remains full of mist and smoke, and the mountains are totally obscured. I can only imagine how the air in Seattle looks. A year ago, when I was there, you could see ash falling, and this year I'm hearing that conditions are the same. I remember when the airs above the Colorado Plateau were so clear that mountains 80 miles away looked as if they were within walking distance, and... Sign in to see full entry.

Autumn is Coming...
The days grow notably shorter, with dawn nearer 6 than 4, and the sun sets earlier through the front window than when it baked the living room until 8pm. Something in the quality of light, maybe the angle as the sun shifts southwards, though these days smoke haze also changes the intensity of the light. Soon the leaves will begin to turn as night temperatures drop towards the 30s--the low reached the 40s last night--while days don't quite reach the 80s. The mood changes from the ennervation of... a few photos...
It was requested that guests keep phone and cameras out of sight for the wedding, so the only photos I took were before, of the venue. It was so pretty, I am happy to share those few: https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/T397g5 Sign in to see full entry.
"MOWIDGE..."
No matter the glitches or grouchies, despite the cold and steady breeze--where heat was expected and dressed-for--the wedding was lovely! It was held outdoors at the farm of the groom's family, with a huge tent for the reception. Our friends had as their officiant another friend, a guy who is making himself an international reputation as a 'cos-player' which is to say, a character impersonator. He began with a bit which, if you ever saw THE PRINCESS BRIDE," you'd remember: the minister who opens... Sign in to see full entry.

doing the facebook snooze...
On Facebook, when you are finding yourself particularly annoyed or upset or irritated by a particular other FB poster whom you 'follow,' you can 'snooze' them for 30 days. This morning I decided to snooze myself. It is flooded with sad, ugly, disgusting political/ social stuff for some time, but there is also heartening stuff: stories and videos of kindness, of good stewarding. And yes, of course, funny kittens and grinning dogs. It is also useful for connections with friends and family, for... Sign in to see full entry.
