Ever hear of the Mysterious Package Company? They send out fairly pricey one-time, or series of strange packages of mystery-solving items and props like paperwork--newspaper 'clippings.' notes and letters--all clues to the mystery. In fact, this past Christmas, we were each sent one of these. I suspect my elder daughter. They arrive anonymously so the recipient doesn't actually know who sent it, or why. So the company is hiring a sort of project manager. He is maybe just qualified by his... Sign in to see full entry.

Elephant orphans
Found confused and alone in a throng of sheep and goats -- That's the summary of the finding of Ndotto, the young orphaned elephant I have just sent the fostering of to my grandperson. Magnus turned 16 yesterday, and what 16-yr old should not have an interest in an orphaned elephant? The fostering program is through the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, if you're interested in knowing more about them. They do great work with orphaned elephants, and also rhinos, and at least one giraffe.... Sign in to see full entry.

Lively Monday!
The truck is back in service, and the bill was under $300 for a broken switch and towing. That's pleasing! I've been thinking a lot about the China trip in April, worrying about everything that can be worried about, so today I got busy and looked up (again) what has to be done to get visas. First, I will go with a visa process expediting company, so it is relatively simple. Charlie received his renewed passport, so we have those in hand. We need to provide those, plus photos like the passport... Sign in to see full entry.

a carless weekend
Still no call from the transmission guys... Not even to get the okay to do whatever work is needed. Snow... but not that much around here, not even an inch survived yesterday's heat--around 37F. Flurries, they say, for today... If we are to be discommoded by snow, I want a LOT of snow. Both my daughters have just had birthdays, both now officially into their 40s. One has a child of her own, now 16ish and two step-kids, one of which has moved out into the world on his own which makes life at home... Sign in to see full entry.

and it's winter again...
Snow is coming down in big fat flakes, accumulating on ground and road and railings: Big and fluffy snow, in the warmer temperatures just around freezing. Still without transport, but the word is it could be fixed today. My mechanic called to say it had to go to the transmission shop as he doesn't do transmission stuff. I'll pay for this tow as I only get 4 uses of AAA a year, and it seems silly to use it up on short tows. Anyway, it could get done today instead of sometime next week. Someone... Adventure!
Charlie, Milo and I are about to head up to the high wide valley between the mountains near Hartsel, CO, looking at land and maybe cabins for sale. I daresay there will be pictures! It's about an hour there from here, two from there to Denver by roads not going back through the Springs. I have been thinking for a while of having a summer retreat place up that way, but after seeing some photos that looked inviting, spoke with zoning/planning for that county, and things we'd like to do, we... Tuesday catch-up
All day yesterday I almost sat down here to write, but things went on as things will and do, and it didn't happen. We have disassembled most of the holiday decor... all but the trees and their lights have been tucked away in boxes and shoved onto the top shelf of a closet that is rarely opened. The village and snow are removed, the soft denizens of the town piled into a basket that used to hold the food goodies, beside the fireplace. I will miss the lights, especially, when they are gone.... Sign in to see full entry.

Another Sunday
Sun and clouds are sharing the sky this morning. I got up earlier than I wanted to, but still too late to see Venus brilliant against the dark. Some mornings lately that has been all the incentive I need--after a good night's sleep! Or with the intention of going back to bed almost immediately. Yesterday Charlie, Rob and I had a make-your-own pizza party. It starts with miniature pizza blanks, and the cooking up of a variety of toppings. We had two sauces: chunky red, and pesto alfredo. Then,... Sign in to see full entry.

The Knowing of Things
By warm, I mean well above freezing! Today the high will be in the 50s F, approaching 60! So far this season seems to be a yoyo between extreme highs and lows, a wave pattern on a cycle of days and weeks. The forecast has us in this warm range for the next week and a half. Then, I expect, we will be back to temps well below freezing, even into the single digits that freeze water pipes. Over on Facebook, my curation theme for today is SCIENCE IS COOL! with a side of CURIOSITY IS EXCELLENT, and a... Sign in to see full entry.

Making Facebook my platform
This year, so far, I have been on Facebook sharing themed posts. Yesterday it was all about the amazing world we live in. Today it is about Earth stewardship: what we are doing right. The way Fb works, as I understand it, one gets the things one likes on one's daily feed. I like animals and nature and such things, so I see a lot of them. But not everyone sees what I get on my feed. So I've decided to eschew the political and social outrage which plenty of people are sharing widely, which... Sign in to see full entry.
