Counting down the days...

Yesterday we started decorating the Yule scene, with some landscaping, snow and trees, a couple of cottages and a Yule Tomten. I have taken a few shots, but they are not very good, so I will be working on that, finding better lights and angles. Through the next week there will be ornaments added, and then, finally, the lights. We are saving the lighting for last. Out on the town

Another cold day, shiny with a thin layer of snow on the ground. This afternoon, I had a vision check-up, with the dilated eyes stuff and all. Nothing fancy in the new glasses, just single-vision for computer/arm's length stuff. No more bifocals, no more progressives. And I go back in January for a peripheral vision test, as it seems there is maybe glaucoma happening. Daily eye-drops, if it's an actual thing, that won't bring back lost vision but will halt further deterioration, so a nuisance... Sign in to see full entry.

Well, here it is Monday again...

And it's the first business day of December. Time to shuffle funds and pay my rent... the electrocity bill... It is white outside, about an inch of snow flurried onto the world overnight, and it is cold, right about freezing right now. Further flurries are expected through the day. Charlie goes in for work at noon instead of 10am so he can be there until 6pm when the gal in the office goes home. Interesting morning

Sitting here with the front door locked... This morning there was a breaking news flash on Facebook: a man is on the run from police, he is considered armed and dangerous, and within range of, though probably not actually in this neighborhood. So I'm not actually alarmed, just taking the sensible precaution. Meanwhile, this is probably our last nice day for a while. Liking the changes

For the first time in years, the living room has an open floor, and I can really enjoy the oriental carpet that once lived under the dining table in my parents' house. I can sit in The Chair and look at the parakeets, and see them looking at me, too. I can watch the faux fireplace, and read the clock above it. Making room for Christmas

The sunlight's gone for now, too early... The air is chill but I still like it better than too warm, so the door to the deck is open behind my chair. Ah, yes... the chair is now in front of the door which will be closed, mostly, through the winter, and the deck will be accessible only through my bedroom. The tv has shifted across the room with all its wires and boxes and complications, and now though I have it all plugged in, it won't go. I expect Charlie will figure it out when he comes over to... Days after...

Another bright and chilly morning is dawning... Plans for the day are highly flexible, the only sure thing is that my old chum from high school will be heading back up into the hills soon after breakfast. Weather word is that there will be snow and wind in the highlands today, so she will be going the most direct way instead of winding down through pine forest and winding roads. The Feast of Harvest and Thanksgiving

...has arrived! So has my friend, from her high mountain home. She has not yet emerged from the downstairs bedroom though I have turned on the heat, which is rather loud in that room as it huffs and chuffs through the vents, and I have strutted about overhead making breakfast, where the carpetting absorbs the footfalls, but not the unavoidable clatter of pans and such. I've made a much bigger pot of coffee than usual, and twice as much oatmeal. Getting ready...

Our Thanksgiving is on Thursday, and I have a friend coming for it. She will be here tomorrow sometime, so we can start on the cooking ahead of time. There are only 3 or 4 of us for the feasting event, so it is variety of foods to prepare rather than vast quantities. Of course, I have to bring the house to some sort of orderliness before having any company. With my lower back troubles, I only get so much done before sitting down again and giving it a rest.
