I suppose we would all like to fall asleep and wake at the appropriate time.
I admire your fortitude language learning, I hope it bears fruit.

Re: Re: RPresta,
Sure, hope this comes through okay. Sorry for the type size. I’m not at a computer right now.
https://study.com/academy/lesson/vertical-thinking-vs-lateral-thinking.html
Vertical thinking uses a sequence of direct and logical steps to come to a conclusion. Lateral thinking uses indirect and creative approaches to come to a conclusion. Vertical thinking is rigid, lateral thinking is flexible. ... Vertical thinking is sequential, lateral thinking is not.

Re: RPresta,
I have not heard of vertical thinking... Can you explain that further?

Re: Pat,
My sister, first thing in the morning has always walked around with that squinty look--in our family, she was called the Mole... That's where it comes from.
3 is also my cut-off for caffeine, but lately I have not honored it well enough.

Re: TAPS,
I start to fall asleep, but as soon as the book and glasses are set aside and the light goes out--thoughts start coming, and pretty soon I am turning the light back on and picking up glasses and book. This time I blame the few ounces of late afternoon coffee.

I've always been a night owl. I try to "reform." It's not happenin'. I sympathize with you. Your language learning sounds very interesting.
There is also vertical thinking.

Never heard it called mole-eyes, but it seems an appropriate label.
I find it more difficult to sleep after a day in the La-Z-Boy, crochet hook moving, but none of the big muscles - after an all-day rain or when my get-up-and-go has simply got up and went. Being physically tired seems to help - that and no caffeine after 3: p.m.
so boring.

I have given up on trying to go to sleep. If I don't fall asleep within ten or fifteen minutes of going to bed I just get back up and enjoy whatever until I feel sleepy and try again. The other night I tried four times before I finally fell asleep at 5:00 a.m. Then I awoke automatically at 8:00 a.m. to take my morning medicines. Of course an afternoon nap was needed.
