Waking again in the wee hours of Beijing time, with no other recourse for using the time before the morning birds open the day, I have gotten to some 'housekeeping' here. Looking at my listings for items on offer on the page listing my blogs, I have updated the first, the one for LAYS OF MIDDLE-EARTH, lowering the price and changing the excerpt. It was always meant to be presented in three installments, if there was interest shown in the first. There has not been much, though, so the project... Sign in to see full entry.

connections
It seems the only actual connection possible here in Beijing on my little notebook is Blogit. No facebook, no gmail... nothing opens but Blogit. How about that? I have been journaling the trip on an actual notebook, and will transfer those entries to my Adventuring travelblogue on Blogit as time and battery permit. For here and now--my internal clock is very confused about now --I will just say, Here we are! Also, I plan never to fly a trip like this on American Airlines ever again. And also, so... heebie jeebies...
So here it is, hours before departure time... the time I start to get really antsy and anxious. Will I forget something important? Will I miss a flight? Will I lose something like glasses or camera? recharger cords? Spare glasses, camera, wallet, purse stuff is lined up to go into my underseat luggage. Electrocity pmt is written out and in the envelope. Instructions for critter and plant care are written out for Rob who will be looking after them. Speaking of birds... There are eggs in the... The weekend before
It is becoming night outside, and today Colorado Springs has had all the weather: Yesterday and the day before, temps were in the 70s, today, the low 50s, with a bit of snow, also thunderstorm, and a tornado that touched down about 20 miles west of here, with car-denting hail in that area. Yep, welcome to Colorado Springs! Charlie went to work today, has had no pain the past couple of days, and it is fairly safe to say, the trip is still on. He has also got a new app on his phone--a translator!... Sign in to see full entry.

Maarifa
Some months ago, I dreamed of one of our theater friends who had a pet baby rhinoceros. I don't know why I dreamed of this friend, a very casual friend, or why the little rhino came into it. But it was so sweet and funny, I sent the friend a message, and we laughed about it together. I suggested she might 'adopt' a baby rhino, in fact. She said she'd think about that. At the wedding this past Sunday, we encountered each other, and laughed again about the baby rhino, and she said she was going to... Sign in to see full entry.

Update...
Charlie is feeling much better this morning. A little stomach crampy, but that could be from not eating but one meal yesterday, and that of a mug of broth and rice. I have not yet canceled the trip or any parts of it... Sign in to see full entry.

The Unexpected
We had plans for today, things to do to finalize the trip readiness, but you know what they say about best-laid plans, and how to make God laugh... Charlie woke up in pain with a kidney stone flare-up. It was so intense, he could not even keep down a small drink of water. We got him to the doctor's office by 11, and a couple of hours later, he was tucked up in my guest room where I could keep an eye on him, and he had some tablets that dissolve under the tongue for the nausea, and vicodin, and... The Wedding
Yesterday two of my favorite people in the world linked hands and lives at a really lovely wedding. It was a lovely event held at Colorado Springs' Old Pioneer Museum. The bride used to work there, so it was not only a romantic venue, but also personally meaningful. They held the ceremony in a courtroom restored to its 1903 elegance. The reception was held downstairs in the main hall, and the dinner was pot-luck. Having been to catered receptions, I have to say, this was the best reception... Sign in to see full entry.

New digs for the doves
The doves, as previously reported, are making frisky noises and have been checking out the old nest. It was built by a robin and while it was good enough for the doves, it wasn't great. It is too small when the babies have grown, and after three broods raised, it is pretty grody. So we made them a new larger, cleaner nest to consider, and they have done so, and have accepted the offering. https://flic.kr/p/2dU97Xp As usual, start here and click to the left. So, what shall I do... ZZzzzz...
Did you know that immunizations for travel--Hep A, B, and Typhus--can make you sleepy? It isn't surprising really, as your immune system kicks into overdrive. So, I have been fighting the Nap Impulse for a couple of days now... Friends are getting married on Sunday. They are cleverly doing a pot-luck reception, a great and even fun solution to a) not having huge amounts of money to spend and b) the less than wonderful food of moderately priced caterers. I am making a big pan of sweet corn... Sign in to see full entry.
