Reaload!

Have you ever had one of those days when the whole bottom drops out of your world? When your whole computer system just crashes and you realise that you have to reinstall everything? Well it happened to me again the other day. I say: again, because this isn’t the first time my computers have crashed, leaving me in a world of shit! Because I want to get into the world of web page design, I now realise that I need the professional version of XP, as this hold many a key to databases. Fine so far.... Sign in to see full entry.

The Struggle goes on!

The Struggle goes on! Well Tinwellbooks.co.uk is coming along. It’s an add-on shopping cart for Dreamweaver, which came free with.net magazine. I spent £38 on a shopping cart package which is not a patch on it, and will put the damn disc up for sale back on Ebay where it came from. It is in ASP which I don’t understand, but the whole thing works so wonderfully I can’t turn it down. Once I get some free time from work, I want to explore PHP and MYSQL some more. The are some great shopping carts... Sign in to see full entry.

Church?

Church? With the news that an old Methodist temple is to reopen in Lancashire (UK) I was interested to hear the reason why it’s caused such a fuss! It is to reopen as a Mosque. The Christians had given up on the place (and the religion) more than 50 years before. Even the Priest said, no one came any more, and even when they attend the few churches that do stay open, it’s only for Christenings and weddings. But because some Asians are to take it over, the locals are up in arms. Would it have... Sign in to see full entry.

Cold Cold Fusion! Funny old world. I’ve been banging my head against the brick wall that we know as Dreamweaver for about 6 months now. Of course if I had all the time in the world to sit and read through the books I’d be Ok, but I haven’t. Some time ago, when I signed up with my Hosting company (1and 1) they sent me some free software. One of the applications was a thing called Net objects Fusion. It was sort of poor man’s FrontPage, and not in the big boys league of Dreamweaver. As sign... Sign in to see full entry.

Break on through to the other Side!

A great man once said, in a song by the Doors, that he would break on through to the other side. What Jim was talking about, was breaking through to another realm of consciousness. Of course he was bombed out of his mind on drugs, but what I want to talk about is breaking through in a sense of personal triumph. I am struggling with a web site walled Tinwell Books. It’s a site I’ve owned for years and it has gone through many changes. No longer does it sell books. For a while it tried to sell my... Sign in to see full entry.

PHP and the whole damn thing!

There are not enough hours in the day to learn all the tricks that go towards making a good web page. If I did not have to work full time I could probably make quite a good fist of it, but sadly that is not the case. Most modern web sites for the next generation net, live and die by databases. Without the gory details this is the way you get loyal customers to sign in. Although what you do with all that info is still a mystery to me? More to the point, if you have a shop, it’s easier to replace... Sign in to see full entry.

I’m pleased people still read this blog even though I’ve let things slip very badly. I hardly ever get to read anyone else’s blog. Reading a piece in the Independent newspaper (UK) about how poorly paid novelists are today. Even people who have several titles under their belts, and are considered successful by the industry, struggle to make a living wage from it. If you make £5000 a year all round, you are doing well. Even I could not live on that. Remember that’s only $10,000! But going back to... Sign in to see full entry.

state of play

This is just a brief note to keep this blog open. I’ve been so busy with work and other projects that I haven’t found the time. I no longer think I can make any money writing. The market is too up and down, and just too flimsy. If you take a look at the top earners on this site you might think they are creaming it in, but you are just seeing the peaks and not a cross section of their earnings. So in other words, it don’t pay! Whatever freelance work you might get, does not pay a monthly salary... Sign in to see full entry.

Web sites and Turnkeys

I’m starting to see my way round to writing web sites. Now this is such an overcrowded market, things have to be hot! I think there is still a market for people who know very little about selling on the net and desperately want to make money from this monster called the Internet. The sharp end of the market for everything is Ebay, and they are stuffed with offers for made to measure sites and businesses. Some of them must make money? I know many of these offers are scams and pyramid selling, but... Sign in to see full entry.

Remote Viewing.

Remote Viewing. Article on the radio today about the British Ministry of Defence using psychics in remote viewing experiments. This is basically where they get folk to sit in a darkened room and guess what’s in an envelope. A lucky monkey can come out of it Ok, and it means nothing. Doctor Rhine thought all this up in the 1930’s and little has been done with it. Of course the MOD were made to look a laughing stock, as they tried to get people to spot terrorists and bombs and stuff, and it all... Sign in to see full entry.
