Churches built on the sand . . .

A few churches I have visited were figuratively built on the sand. In other words, members were not secure in their beliefs, nor were they familiar with the foundations of their theological history. To be a strong church, there must be an understanding of what is believed, wherefore came the rituals... Sign in to see full entry.

A Church for "Night Owls"

I have heard of Midnight Masses, but all churches could benefit from having "weird hour" services. Many people work shifts or are just more alert at night or in the "wee hours" of the day. Perhaps a service at midnight and another at 3 am would benefit some whose inner clocks differ from most of... Sign in to see full entry.

Coffee Klatch Church

One way to boost attendance at church would be to initiate a program whereby each family attending would bring a baked good or some other home-made item that would be enjoyed after the service. Sign in to see full entry.

New Idea for a Church:

Inspired by recent news about the movie, The Passion of the Christ. Let's make all churches into thaters and have Mel Gibson produce a series of movies, each based on some portion of the Bible. Then, we could go to church, watch the movie and then discuss it afterwards, with a priest or preacher... Sign in to see full entry.

The Church as a Social Services Agency

A good many churches are involved in feeding and housing people in need and providing other needed services. Is this a function of the church? If it is, should they receive money from the government to assist in those functions? I think it is a function of a church to assist those in need, but I... Sign in to see full entry.

Church Addiction

Many of those around me are addicted to their churches. Even if they have gone to all 3 or 4 services scheduled in a particular week, they pine for more. They seek out other church-related activities, and are able to spend virtually every evening and every week-end day at church. This is a free... Sign in to see full entry.

The Passion of Christ as it affects Churches

Will the movie affect the way people feel about their church? Will they demand more of their church in view of the suffereing of Christ in the movie, or will they not connect the two? That should be an interesting study worth a small grant! Sign in to see full entry.

United Church of the Internet?

This is the perfect way to boost church "attendance" while getting spiritual stuff into more people. Set up an Internet church for anyone in the world to "tune in" for a sermon, live during set times, or view the tape if you missed the live broadcast. During the sermon, parishoners could IM each... Church Functions

Some churches make good multi-purpose facilities that can be used by the community. some are not so versatile, while others, not so versatile, have out buildings the community can use. Should this be a function of the church and a fiscal responsibility of its members? Does it duplicate government... Sign in to see full entry.

An Idea to Improve Retention of Sermons . . . .

Lay Monitors, to walk about the church during sermons to keep people awake. I understand they were once used by Puritans and the like. The monitors would have long sticks with strings or feathers on the end and could reach among the people in the pews to wake up an individual who was sleeping, or... Sign in to see full entry.
